Just before the first snowfall of the year, students at the West Carroll Primary School received a generous gift from the “Warming Hearts Committee” of Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna.

Residents, family members, and staff provided colorful, warm fleece hats for students in the Media Center of the Savanna school on December 19th.

Big Meadows Administrator Jaime Zastrow said, “The committee was the brainstorm of employee Mary Jane Jacobs. Everyone worked really hard on these hats, and we hope the children love them.”

Donations were given to purchase supplies by The First Presbyterian Church in Savanna, Bernadine Reibel’s family, and Michael Colehour. Money was also raised by selling handmade ornaments and sun catchers.

The goal of the committee is to provide warmth to the hearts of community members, as well as the people involved in the project. Last year, the Warming Hearts Committee members provided fleece scarves for students at the Primary School.

Students, teachers, and Administrators commented at the magnitude of joy these projects bring to the children.
