C. Paul Carpenter, 95 yrs. old, of Lanark passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at Good Samaritan Society in Mt. Carroll.
He was born on Sept. 14, 1918 in Argo Fay, a son of Don and M. Alyce (Mitchell) Carpenter and was a 1936 Graduate of Thomson High School. He married Berneil Cooper on April 17, 1949. She died on Oct. 11, 1955. He married Betty (Kaiser) Bertram on July 28, 1973 in Pearl City.
Paul was employed for twenty years at the Freeport Autex Store, Schreiner-Carbaugh Implement, Big A Auto Parts, General Auto Parts, and the City of Lanark as a Police Officer and Zoning Officer.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Good Sam Stagecoach Sams Camping Club, and was a Boy Scout Leader for thirteen years. Paul rode Indian motorcycles and was a small plane pilot. He owned a 1949 TaylorCraft cloth winged plane. He took his wife Betty on their first date in this plane. He gave many of his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren their first planes rides(many in this plane). He and his wife loved to travel and visited all fifty states and thirteen countries.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Carpenter of Lanark, his daughter, Wanda Petersen of Tulsa, OK, his grandson, Nathien Watts of Tulsa, OK,
four grandaughters, Angel McCoy of KY, Charity Mills of KY, Misty Dyer of IA, Stacy Baker of Rock Falls, two step-grandchildren, Scott (Janice) Bertram and Shiloh (Kirk) Bausman, both of Freeport, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews,
Preceding him in death were his parents, his first wife, a son, Harry Carpenter, a step-son, Allen Bertram, two sisters, Genevieve (Lester) Weis and Pauline (Gerald) VanKampen, and two brothers, Clyde (Fern) Carpenter and Russell (Dorothy) Carpenter.
The visitation will be on Sat. Sept. 28, 2013 from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm. at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark. Graveside services will follow at the Cottonwood Cemetery near Morrison.

Robert W. Briska
Robert W. Briska, 89, of Lanark, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. He retired from Elkay Manufacturing Company as a Vice President and had been based in Lanark for many years.
Robert was born and raised in East Chicago, Indiana. After high school graduation in 1942 he joined his father, William H. Briska, at Graver Tank and Manufacturing Company. His father was Chief Engineer and Plant Manager of that facility, a position that Robert eventually held.
Robert served in the United States Navy during World War II in the European Theater as a hard hat salvage diver. He was briefly recalled to service during the Korean conflict.
He was a graduate of the Illinois Institute for Technology specializing in mechanical engineering.
Robert joined Elkay Manufacturing Company in Broadview, Illinois in December 1962. He initially served as manager of manufacturing engineering. As Elkay grew and diversified he was given successively more responsibilities for engineering and plant operations. In 1975 he was promoted to plant manager of the newly acquired water cooler division located in Lanark Illinois. In 1984 he was promoted a Group Vice President Assembled Products. Robert retired from Elkay in 1989.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Patsy (Rogers) Briska of Lanark, IL, and children, William Briska, Luann Briska, Carrie Rush, and Carolyn Jarosz, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He preceded in death by a son Ralph Briska.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the Lake Carroll Clubhouse, 1 to 4 PM. An opportunity for those wishing to share comments and memories with family and friends will begin at 2:30 PM.
In lieu of lowers the family asks that contributions in his memory be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.

Audrey Struckman, age 90 of Savanna, Illinois died on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna with Pastor Nancy Wilkinson officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Sterling, Illinois. Memorials may be given to the Savanna Historical Society in Audrey’s memory.
