Chadwick-Milledgeville Annual Board Retreat Meeting Synopsis

The meeting was held Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Milledgeville High School Library, the Chadwick-Milledgeville School Board held their annual Board Retreat. All board members were present.

Discussion and Revision of District Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Goals: The board reviewed last year’s mission, vision, core values, and goals and made only minor changes.

Ten Year Life Safety Survey Project List Discussion: District Architect Scott Johnson presented a list of projects to be completed. The board will hold a special meeting on February 19, 2013 at 5:30 P.M. beginning in the Chadwick School office to take a walkthrough of each building to review the list of projects.

Annual District Survey Results and Discussion: The board heard a report from Superintendent Schurman about the 14 question survey. Responses were very positive and indicated that residents of the district are satisfied with the programs offered at Chadwick-Milledgeville CUSD #399. Respondents also indicated that they would like to see the District initiate a 1:1 computer program at the high school and they oppose charging families for bus transportation.

Teacher Performance Evaluation: Superintendent Schurman made a PowerPoint presentation on the changes to the teacher evaluation process this school year. In addition, he explained the benefits of the new process.

Transition to the Common Core Standards: Superintendent Schurman made a PowerPoint presentation explaining the changes to the reading, language arts, math, and science curriculum required by the new standards. He pointed out the shifts that will take place and the increased rigor required by the new standards. Finally, he described what the district was doing to meet the challenges of the new standards.

Shared Services and Personnel Discussion; Superintendent Schurman made a presentation describing the services currently shared with Eastland and West Carroll. He then cited additional services or personnel that possibly could be shared in future years.

Formation of an Educational Foundation: The board reviewed sample by-laws from other districts and discussed the feasibility of forming a foundation.

The retreat meeting was adjourned at 8:13 P.M.
