Garla Mae Nelson

Garla Mae Nelson, age 73, of Lanark, Illinois passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013 peacefully at home with her family at her side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Freeport, with a one hour visitation at the church prior to Mass. On Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. a visitation will be held at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nelson Brothers Memorial Scholarship at Northeast High School, Goose Lake, IA, the Tourette Syndrome Association or the charity of your choice. Garla was born April 25, 1939 in Davenport, IA the daughter of Raymond J. and Helen Winfred (Hughes) Smith. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School, DeWitt, IA with the Class of 1957. On June 16, 1973, Garla married Robert Nelson in DeWitt.

Garla worked for the Iowa State Bank in Clinton, IA. for eighteen years as Head Cashier and Vice President. She then enjoyed several years as a stay-at-home Mom while raising her children. After moving to St. Anthony, IA, Garla was a member, and worked for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church as a Secretary for fifteen years. The Family later moved to Polo, IL where Garla was a member, and worked for St. Mary’s Catholic Church as Parish Secretary, Director of Religious Education and the Choir Director. The family then moved on to Lanark and became members of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Garla will be dearly missed by her husband, Robert of Lanark, a son, Robert Raymond Nelson of Lanark; three daughters, Michelle “Shelly” Nelson of Sycamore; Barbara Jo Nelson of Lanark and Keri Ann Nelson of Sycamore; a sister in-law, Carolyn Lee of Goose Lake, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Garla was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Raymond, J.L., Donald and Jack Smith.

Phyllis Mae Bellich

Phyllis Mae Bellich, age 75, of Savanna, Illinois died Monday, February 25, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, Iowa. Cremation rites have been accorded. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Law Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A memorial fund has been established in Phyllis’ memory.

David Lee Vanhaelst

David Lee Vanhaelst, age 69, of Savanna, Illinois died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. A Funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home.

Joyce Lindsay Dole

Joyce Lindsay Dole, 87, formerly of Lanark, died on Thursday, February 28 in Leesburg, FL. A memorial service will be held in Leesburg at a later date. She is survived by her brother James Lindsay of Rockford, and daughter Luanne Cloyd of Jacksonville, FL.

David John McGinty

David John McGinty, age 78 of Mount Carroll, Illinois died on March 1, 2013 at his home in Pontiac, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll. A second visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Schmaedeke Funeral Home, 14205 Union Ave, Orland Park, Illinois (1 block North of Southwest Highway and 143rd Street) 708-349-0111. Betty Jean Engaldo

Betty Jean Engaldo, age 83, passed away at home on March 2nd, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Memorials may be made in Betty’s memory for the American Heart Association.

John Henry Krahn

John Henry Krahn, age 84, of Thomson, Illinois, died on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. A visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in John’s memory.
