Fire Department Offers Cadet Training

A program that the Lanark Fire Department started in 2007 continues to be a success, said Chief Dan Shaulis. "The Cadet Training Program got off to a great start. Some are also planning to train as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) cadets."

To date, cadets have completed training for the Firefighter II course. They attend regular and training meeting with other department personnel, and go on calls.

Continual training and education are standard procedures at the LFD. The department is currently offering in-house EMT classes. Members are planning to attend several workshops and seminars geared toward firefighter safety and training techniques. Some members participated in the emergency drill at the Danisco Sweetener Plant in Thomson in May.

Chief Shaulis said that the LFD is always seeking to increase their number of firefighters and EMT's. "We can always use additional personnel, especially during the day." Chief Shaulis added a special thanks to Lanark and area businesses that allow their employees who serve as volunteers on the LFD to leave work to answer calls.

A new ambulance was added to the department's equipment, replacing an older vehicle.

The Lanark Fire Department currently has 37 members on the roster, one less than last year. Officers are: Chief Dan Shaulis, Asst. Chief Dave Lotz, Asst. Chief Les Guenzler, Captain Jeff Lindsay, Capt. and President Tom Weber, Lt. Mike York, Vice President Amy Folk, Secretary and Chaplain John Sgro, and Treasurer Chris Markley.

Other LFD personnel include Corey Barnes, Keith Burkholder, Mike Crichton, Tymi Currens, Brett Farrell, Don Fehlhafer, Tim Foltz, Elaine Gallentine, Brian Gray, David Hill, Jack Hill, Brett Hutchison, Robert Kalina, Stacy Kalina, Cody Kruse, Derrick Major, Brian Murphy, Paul Murphy, Sheldon Phillips, Brandon Reese, Gabe Schrader, Henry Shuey, Alex Smith, Dave Smith, Matt Strohecker, Kim Sturtevant, Becky Sweitzer, Hunt Thomas, and Denny Wolbers.

EMT's are: Tymi Currens, Tim Foltz, Elaine Gallantine, Brian Gray, Chris Markley, Brian Murphy, Paul Murphy, Kim Sturtevant, Becky Sweitzer, Mike York, and PHRN Stacy Kalina.

Trustees are Jim Callaway, Connie Knutti, and Chris Lower.

Chief Shaulis also paid tribute to the Honorary Firemen who always help when needed. "Thank you, also, to all of the area fire departments for their mutual aid assistance."

The Lanark Fire Department's Annual Fish Fry is their major fundraiser. Held in the spring, proceeds go toward updating and improving the department's equipment.
