Milledgeville Fire & Ambulance
Appreciates Community Support

New equipment is on the horizon for the Milledgeville Fire and Ambulance Department, according to Chief Dave Folk. A new ambulance has been ordered, and a new tanker is being planned.

The $125,000 ambulance was ordered from Foster Coach in Sterling. It is a 2009 model with a Ford chassis, and will replace one of the two ambulances currently operated by the MFD.

Folk said a committee has been formed to develop specifications for a new tanker, expected to be ordered in 2009. The department maintains a 37-year-old tanker now, which will be replaced with the 2009 model.

The MFD currently has 27 members on the roster. Officers are Chief Dave Folk, Assistant Chief Kevin Folk, 1st Captain Ryan Miller, 2nd Captain Greg Miller, 1st Lieutenant Derick Newton, 2nd Lieutenant Jim Hacker, 3rd Lieutenant Brent Frederick, Secretary John Nesemeier, Treasurer Alan Bracken, Safety Officer Matt Cox, and Radio Operator Randy Kleckler.

Members are Jim Brubacker, David Brown, Lindsay Eads, Stan Eads, Tom Hartman, Daryl Hayen, Luke Hayen, Gene Horner, Chad Selman, Brian Simpson, Luann Strukenberg, and Nathan Von Holton.

Probationary members are Cory Kent, Cory Robson, Bill Wilk, and Brett Woodin.

The Milledgeville Fire Protection District Board of Trustees include President Keith Oncken, William Ritenour as Secretary/Treasurer, and member Kermit Reins. Alan Bracken is the MFPD accountant.

According to Chief Folk, members have completed a total of 1,663 hours of fire and emergency medical service training, and all members have completed in-house training for hazardous material awareness. Four members have completed a 40-hour training class as Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) members. Six members attended Incident Command Sweep (ICS) training. Four members attended a Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) emergency disaster drill, coordinated by Greg Miller, MABAS Division 29 President, in conjunction with the Thomson Fire & Ambulance Dept., held at the Danisco Sweetener Plant in Thomson. Eight members completed classes and training at the Monroe Fire School, and one member attended an extrication class in Amboy.

"I would like to thank the MFPD board members for their support, and a special thanks to all of the area fire departments that have assisted us with mutual aid through the MABAS system," Folk added. "And thanks to the community for their tremendous support of our two major fundraisers. We hold two annual pancake and sausage breakfasts on the first Sunday in May and November. Mark your calendars for the next breakfast, held at the Fire Station, on Sunday, November 2."

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Milledgeville Fire & Ambulance Department, just contact Chief Folk or any member.

"We are looking for anyone interested in serving the Milledgeville community as a firefighter and/or emergency medical technician (EMT)," Chief Folk said.
