The Savanna Fire Department

The Savanna Fire Department responds to approximately 125 emergency calls per year, according to Assistant Chief Rex Kreuder. To assist with their efforts, the Savanna Fire Dept. received a $199,607 Zero Percent Interest Loan from the State of Illinois in 2007 to purchase a new Rescue vehicle to replace their current 1985 Rescue truck. This new Rescue vehicle is to arrive in November 2008, and "it's the first loan of this type that we have received," said Chief Shawn Picolotti.

The Savanna Fire Department sponsors or co-sponsors several community activities held throughout the year: Annual Halloween Parade, Haunted Forest, Pancake Breakfast, and Fireman’s Ball just to name a few. "Community support of these fundraising activities is very much appreciated," said Chief Picolotti.

The Savanna Fire Dept. also sponsors a Fire Explorers Post, established in 2004. Developed through the Boy Scouts of America, they attend their own meetings as well as the regulat dept. meetings. Four members are currently with the Explorers: Cody Johnson, Nick Law, Ethan Ritchie, and Andrew Smith.

Savanna has Four Full Time Firefighters: Chief Shawn Picolotti, Asst. Chief Scott Wolfe, Ann Magill, and Erinn Strauch.

Officers are: Chief Shawn Picolotti, Asst. Chief Rex Kreuder, Asst. Chief Scott Wolfe, Asst. Chief Steve Yenney, Capt. Keith Brown, Capt. Harry Grissinger, Capt. Scott Parker, Capt. Kevin Reusch, Lt. Kurt Arno, Lt. Duane Ferguson, Lt. Vinnie Popkin, Lt. Ray Skiles, Training Officer Rob Murphy, Radio Dispatcher Dwayne Hamilton, Radio Dispatcher Marty Rubio, and Dean Nelson, Part-Time Firefighter/Radio Dispatcher.

Other department personnel are: Brett Bearsley, Scott Brandt, JC Carey, David Cox, Eric Derrer, Kevin Foley, Terry Koser, Brad Kosier, Craig LaShelle, Tim McWethy, Bud Mix, Tim O’Neill, Karl Popkin, Tom Ritchie, John Ross, Nathan Rubio, Dustin Sedivy, Danny Shock, Mike Sweeney, John Vernon, and Trent Yenney.

Savanna Fire Protection District Trustees are Bob Acuff, Rob Canier, and Tom Ritchie.

Two Savanna firemen - Chief Shawn Picolotti and Steve Yenney - recently returned from Louisiana. They were part of an Illinois contingency that went to help those who were devastated by recent hurricanes.
