The road, now Rt. 40, makes a sharp left turn before the railroad tracks seen mid-picture. That turn today is First Street which goes west several blocks to Main Street and a right turn leads north through the commercial district. Highways at their inception were to go through the business district in order to promote trade. Now many of them skirt the one-time bustling trades, places, to expedite traffic.
