On a sunny, windy Saturday afternoon in Downs, the EPC Wildcat defense and offense turned seven Tri Valley turnovers into a 41-6 victory.
The Vikings woes started early in the contest, after taking the opening kickoff the Wildcats went three and out. However, the Vikings fumbled the ensuing EPC punt and two plays later Drake Walker found Tony Dunlap with a 24 yard TD pass. The Wildcats turned five fumbles and two interceptions into fifteen points.
Tri Valleys lone score came on QB Gabriel Cripe's 38 yard run in the second half. EPC scored four unanswered touchdowns in the second half, a 5 yard run by Walker, a 14 yard run by Alex Maurer, a 35 yard run by Carson Swalve and a 67 yard run by Aaron Reed.
The Wildcats amassed 303 yards of total offense, 267 on the ground. Alex Maurer led the EPC ground game with 135 yards, while Reed added 69 and Swalve 42. The Wildcats now host the undefeated Morrison Mustangs in Lanark.

Number one-ranked Morrison (10-0) scored on four of five of their first possessions to put the game out of reach for the Chiefs. Janssen then went into the endzone from 11 yards out and Vos scored again from 4 yards out. Janssen carried the ball 9 times for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns.

VOLLEYBALL . . .
Eastland Takes Regional Title
By Craig Lang
Prairie Advocate Sports
It appeared early in the first game that the defending state champion Eastland Lady Cougars might have their hands full with the Milledgeville Lady Missiles. But, after six ties in the first game which Eastland won 25-17, the Lady Cougars cruised to the 25-13 second game win to take the Polo regional title and advance to host the Eastland sectional that begins Tuesday evening in Lanark.
After holding a slim 12-10 first game lead, the Eastland squad went on an 11-2 run to take game 1. It was all Eastland in the second game as the cruised to the 25-13 victory. With the win, Eastland earned their third straight regional plaque and travel home to host the Eastland sectional where they take on the Le-Win Lady Panthers on Tuesday night at 7 pm at EHS.
West Carroll Takes Byron Regional Title
By Craig Lang
Prairie Advocate Sports
The West Carroll Lady Thunder took two straight from the host Byron Lady Tigers on Saturday night, 25-22 and 25-23. Despite being down in both games, the Lady Thunder battled back in both to pull out the victory. In Game one, the Lady Thunder were down 14-7 before scoring six of the next eight points to pull to within 16-14. They took their first lead at 21-20 and then scored four of the next five to win game one. Game 2 looked much the same as Byron took a 16-11 lead before the Lady Thunder fought back to tie the score at 20. The Lady Tigers went up 23-21 before West Carroll reeled off the next four points to take game two and the title. The Lady Thunder travel to Oregon to take on Mendota in the semifinals on Tuesday night at 6 pm.
Apologies, Girls
It was one of those weekends. With the E-PC football game being nearly 3 hours away, Craig Lang, PA Sports writer, could not get back to Byron or Polo in time to cover the Regional Volleyball Championships. But it wasn't for the lack of trying.
Three other photographers that the Prairie Advocate works with were out of town as well. So was the PA publisher. And the fine folks at Sauk Valley Newspapers had a similar dilemma.
Our profuse apologies go out to the Eastland Lady Cougars and the Milledgeville Lady Missiles, who played for the Polo Regional crown Saturday night. Congratulations to Eastland, who won the Class 1A Regional. We also apologize to the West Carroll Lady Thunder as well, who beat Byron to claim the Byron Regional in Class 2A. Congratulations to both.
This week looks much better for us. We will be covering Sectional action for both Eastland and West Carroll, and the 2nd round Class 2A football playoff game between #1 Morrison and #9 E-PC in Lanark Saturday afternoon.
On to victory! Good luck to everyone in your quest for the State Championship.
