PART III — “In the march of progress of Cherry Grove and Carroll County one main drawback at an early time was a lack of transportation. Much of the produce was hauled long distances. The farmers were anxious for a railroad. A company of supposed capitalists offered them a road if they subscribed liberally, which they did. Their notes were sold to Eastern capitalists for cash. But the road was never built although some grading was done between Savanna and Freeport. Much litigation ensued until some of the farmers settled on a 50-50 basis.s 150th anniversary.
Denny and Kathy Gantz of Forreston are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary.
Denny and the former Kathy Shade were married on June 20, 1981 at her parent’s home in Shannon. The Rev. Russell Coates officiated.
Denny worked for Woessner Farms in Shannon and is currently employed as a welder at Storage Products Group in Freeport. Kathy is employed at Tee Lee Popcorn in Shannon.
They have 2 daughters, Kristen (James) Tornow of Polo and Kimberly (Ron Gallagher) of Mt. Morris. They also have 2 granddaughters of Polo.
An Open House is planned for them from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on June 26. It will be held at their home 16845 W. Center Hill Road., Forreston, IL 61030.
