Larry G. Zink

Larry G. Zink, age 61, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Crestridge Care Center, Maquoketa, Iowa, after an extended illness. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, prior to the service at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Larry was born August 31, 1947, in Stockton, Illinois, the son of Herman and Lucille (Kupfer) Zink. He attended school in Stockton and Mt. Carroll. Larry married Karen Kessler on November 13, 1965, in Lanark, Illinois.

Larry worked at Johnston’s Feed Service and Bee - Line Ready Mix in Mt. Carroll before working twenty-three years at the Savanna Army Depot as a Fire Fighter retiring as the Assistant Fire Chief. Larry enjoyed hunting, visiting with his friends and telling tall tales, playing the spoons, and truck driving. He was also a longtime member of the Mt. Carroll Volunteer Fire Department.

Larry is survived by his wife Karen Zink of Mt. Carroll, Illlinois; two sons, Jeff (Mary) Zink of Shannon, Illinois and Troy (Brenda) Zink of Mt. Carroll; three grandsons, Kyle, Tyler, and Adam Zink; one twin brother, Gary (Jennifer) Zink of Savanna, Illinois; a sister, Lori (Ron) Hefflefinger of Winnebago, Illinois, and a sister-in-law, Ann Zink of Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Richard.

Betty Lou Grenoble

Betty Lou Grenoble, age 79, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, with Pastor Ron Abbott of the Mt. Carroll Church of God officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. ­ 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Betty was born February 17, 1930 in Mt. Carroll, the daughter of Floyd and Florence (Cluck) Curboy. She was raised a farm girl and loved horses. Betty attended the Polsgrove Country School. On November 22, 1948, Betty married Stover Edmund "Ed" Grenoble in Milledgeville.

Betty was a homemaker most of her life. She had also worked at the Savanna City Hospital in the 1960s and Atwoods in Mt. Carroll.

Most important to Betty were her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Grandma B". In younger years, Betty enjoyed riding horses, fishing, squirrel hunting, mushroom hunting and gardening. She was a member of the Mt. Carroll Church of God and years ago had been baptized by Pastor Ellis in the Plum River near Pleasant Valley.

Betty will be dearly missed by her two sons, Larry Grenoble of Mt. Carroll and Brad (Kathy) Grenoble of Milledgeville; her daughter Pam (Glen) Heisler of Mt. Carroll; six grandchildren, Brad (Leah) Grenoble, Brooke and Brittany Grenoble, Gregory Heisler, Jennifer (Mike Mikesell) Heisler, Laura (fiancé Justin Knutti) Heisler; seven great grandchildren, Taylor, Jade, Maliah, Peyton, Katie, Alyson and Hannah; two nephews, John and Tim; five nieces, Patty, Marilyn, Shirley, Linda and Eileen; and her special cat, "Muffy".

Preceding Betty in death were her parents; husband; two brothers, Woodrow and Owen; a sister, Myrtle Janssen; and two nieces, Donna and Lois.

George B. Fecke

George B. Fecke, age 83, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Thursday, June 11, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church with Reverend Mark Harkness officiating. Inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 5:00 ­ 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. George was born May 23, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Benjamin L. and Ruth M. (Weinmann) Fecke. He is a 1943 graduated from Crane Tech High School, Chicago. George served in the United States Navy during World War II in Northern Africa. George married Thelma Scherman on March 15, 1950 in Savanna, Illinois.

George worked thirty years at the Savanna Army Depot as an Industrial Engineering Technician, retiring in 1981. He also farmed near Mt. Carroll with his father and brother, John. George was a member of Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. He was also a member of Mt. Carroll American Legion, the 4 Cs Club, the Jacobstown Community Club, and a past member of the Mt. Carroll Lions Club. George was a very loving person and most important to him was spending time with his family and friends.

George will be dearly missed by his wife, Thelma; his son, Paul Fecke of New Berlin, Wisconsin; his daughter, Linda (Vern) Anderson of Moline, Illinois; six grandchildren, Christopher (Pam) Fecke, Richard (Kilah) Terhardt, Britta Anderson, Tami (Don) Spriet, Anthony Anderson, and Brandon Anderson; six great grandchildren, Kyra, Alana, Kelsie, Jake, Karly and Storm; and two nephews, Jim Fecke of Mt. Carroll and Bob (Kay) Fecke of Lake Ville, Minnesota. George is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, John.

Ernest "Ernie" L Beyer

Ernest "Ernie" L Beyer, age 87, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Morgan Memorial Nursing Home, Stockton, Illinois after a long battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2009 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll with Reverend Robert Phelps of Berreman Church of God officiating. Burial will take place in the Lanark Cemetery, Lanark, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10:00 ­ 11:00 a.m. Monday, prior to the service at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Ernie's memory to the Morgan Memorial Nursing Home. Condolences and tributes may be sent to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.

Ernie was born March 3, 1922 in JoDaviess County, the son of Lewis and Lena (Walther) Beyer. Ernie graduated from Mt. Carroll High School with the Class of 1940. As a member of 4-H he raised beef cattle. After graduation he worked on a farm in Stephenson County. In 1949 he served as president of the Stephenson County Rural Youth Group. He was also active in the Florence Station United Methodist Church youth group. In 1952 he moved back to the family farm to assist with the farming. He lived on the farm most of his life until he moved to Morgan Memorial Assisted Living, Stockton.

Ernie especially loved to dance. He loved Polka and Bluegrass music. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Many will miss him as he always had a smile on his face and a story to tell.

Ernie is survived by his sister, Leona Farley of Eldridge, Iowa; two nephews, Jim Beyer and his wife, Corliss of Winnebago, Illinois and John E. Farley, Jr. of Curpertino, California and their families.

Ernied is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Floyd and Forrest Beyer; a brother-in-law John Farley, Sr.; and a nephew, Michael Farley.

Ernie and his family appreciated the love and care of the Morgan Memorial Nursing Home and the FHN Hospice staff.
