Charlotte Ione Guenzler, age 88, of Lanark, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Provena St. Joseph Center, Freeport, Illinois. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the First Brethren Church of Lanark. Burial will follow in the Lanark Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2012 at the First Brethren Church of Lanark. Memorials may be made to the Provena St. Joseph Center in Charlotte’s Memory. Charlotte was born on January 5, 1924, the daughter of Ralph and Marie (Auman) Flickinger in Lanark. She attended Lanark High School and graduated with the Class of 1941. Charlotte married Robert D. Guenzler on October 11, 1942 in Lanark. Robert died on August 11, 2008 in Freeport.
Charlotte was a teller with THE National Bank, Mount Carroll and THE National Bank, Lanark. She also worked as a secretary for the Carroll County Service Company and Flickinger Accounting. She was a lifetime member and Deaconess of the First Brethren Church of Lanark. She enjoyed having a large vegetable garden and canning all the produce from her garden. Most of all, Charlotte loved spending time with her family and friends.
Charlotte is survived and lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Bonnie (Leo) Christians of Lanark, and Roberta DeHaven of Freeport, Illinois; two sons, Les Guenzler of Lanark, and Stephen (Carole) Guenzler of Yorkville, Illinois; twelve grandchildren, Bret (Lisa) Guenzler, Nicki (Jay) Gillfillan, Taunya (Don) Kuberski, Shanna (Mark) Dollinger, Shawn (Ellen) Christians, Troy (LeAnne) Christians, Heath Christians, Grant Guenzler, Ashton Guenzler, Patty (Bruce) Hoeve, Stacy (Chris) Bobay and Laura (Craig Pannkuk) Groom; twenty-four great-grandchildren; Jason, Rachel, Austin, Devin, Blake, Trace, Reid, Cooper, Ethan, Lane, Jared, Tawnee, Cameron, Drew, Evan, Ian, Karlie, Melanie, Mary Kate, Jon Michael, Ashley, Mark, Brianna and Olivia; one brother, Richard (Marilyn) Flickinger of Grants Pass, Oregon; and two sisters in-law, Barbara Flickinger of Aurora, Illinois and Beverly Flickinger-Stoner of Lanark.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; two brothers, Dwight and William Flickinger and one sister, Joyce Younkers.
Oliver Olson, Jr.
PHCM Oliver Olson, Jr., USN (RET), 82, of Pensacola, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012.
He was born December 28, 1929 in Carolco, Illinois. Mr. Olson vehemently fought for his country and retired from the U. S. Navy after twenty six years, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He was a wonderful husband and father who cared deeply for his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois D. Olson; son, Matthew Jordan; parents, Oliver Olson, Sr. and Edna Mannon Olson and brother, Donald Olson.
Survivors include his son, Michael Jordan (Kathy) and Patrick Jordan (Yolanda); daughters, Gwenn Asher (Bob), Gail Rose and Veronica Mueller; sister, Bernadine Cross; ten grandchildren, Whitney, Ashley, Justin, Delaney, Jocalyn, Hillary, Beverly, Bobby and Christian; five great grandchildren, Kadence, Johnathan, Leland, Rachel and Sophia.
A graveside service was held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, July 20, 2012 at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
The family received friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
