History of the Riverbandits
The I-88’s were founded in 2006 by Dan Newman and Rick Reubin. The travel team started with a group of 14 and under boys from Dixon who just played tourneys on the weekends while playing with their respective summer league teams. In 2007, Dan Crawford, Head baseball coach at Dixon High School, joined Dan Newman to form the I 88 Dixon Riverbandits Baseball Organization, a 501-c3 non-profit organization. The organization field teams at the 14 and under and thirteen and under level. In 2008, the organization expanded to three teams fielding a 14 and under, twelve and under and a ten and under team. In 2009, the organization expanded once again, fielding five teams at the sixteen and under, fourteen and under, thirteen and under, eleven and under and nine and under levels.
The goal of the organization is to teach the fundamentals of baseball to the youth of Dixon and the surrounding communities, based on courage, sportsmanship, dedication and character. The I 88’s baseball organization will strive to develop the talent of baseball players through a program of outstanding instruction that emphasizes both the skills of the game as well as the player’s commitment to learning and improving as a player and a person.
The Dixon Riverbandits are affiliated with the United States Sports Specialty Association (USSSA), Continental Amateur Baseball Association (CABA), and the American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC).
