MEREDOCIA. PART II - THE WHITESIDE COUNTY HISTORY, 1877, introduced its record concerning its township’s past by telling about the Meredocia Swamp. That’s how important it was. Its location was described according to the rivers and creek that made up its 12,000 acres and how in flood or low waters affected the “Marsh of Willows” as the word translated. The geology of the frontier as yet unsettled or civilized was a valuable item to know and in this case the Mississippi, Rock Rivers and Meredocia Creek added to the vitality of the landscape.

Joan H. Wilson

Joan H. Wilson, age 75, of Walnut, Illinois, died Sunday, September 15th 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, Illinois. A mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Saturday, September 21st at 10:00 A.M. at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Walnut. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 20th from 4-6 P.M. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Cremation rites and burial of ashes will be in the Walnut Cemetery at a later date. A memorial has been established in her memory.

Betty J. Goss

Betty J. Goss, aged 81, died September 16, 2013 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. Visitation was held Friday, September 20, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral home, Savanna. A funeral service was held Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Lower York Cemetery at Thomson, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Savanna, Illinois.

James W. Riley

James “Jim” W. Riley, age 91 of Hanover, Illinois, died on Friday, September 20, 2013, at Mercy Hospital. A visitation will be held at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover from 4:00 to 6:00 on Tuesday, September 24, with a memorial service following at 6:00 p.m. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Blanche L. Manning

Blanche L. Manning, age 89 of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday, September 23, 2013 at Mercy Living Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A visitation will be held from one hour prior to the service from 10 – 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery.
