Brinkmeier Seeks Third Term as Carroll County State’s Attorney
Carroll County State’s Attorney Scott Brinkmeier announces his intention to seek reelection to the position he has held since 2000. A career prosecutor, Brinkmeier has over 18 years of prosecutorial experience. In addition to the eleven years as Carroll County State’s Attorney, prior to that Brinkmeier served 8 years as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Whiteside County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The Carroll County State’s Attorney is responsible for prosecuting all criminal offenses that occur in Carroll County, cases ranging from a minor traffic ticket to First Degree Murder. The State’s Attorney is also responsible for handling all the juvenile delinquent, abuse and neglect cases that occur in Carroll County. To effectively serve the public and work closely with law enforcement officials, Carroll County State’s Attorney Scott Brinkmeier is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Carroll County State’s Attorney is also the attorney for the Carroll County Board and the elected and appointed Carroll County Officials, providing them with legal advice on matters related to their respective offices.
Some of Brinkmeier’s accomplishments during his tenure as Carroll County State’s Attorney include: assisting with the formation of the Carroll County Juvenile Justice Council; applying for and obtaining a federal grant to fund a part-time Victim’s Assistant position; establishing a Carroll County Victim Impact Panel that regularly presents and has previously presented at the local high schools; and holding annual legal seminars for local law enforcement officers.
During Brinkmeier’s term he has successfully prosecuted hundreds of felony cases such as aggravated battery, arson, burglary, criminal sexual assault, home invasion, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, some of which have included jury or bench trials. Throughout his career Brinkmeier has sought and achieved justice for numerous victims and their families.
Brinkmeier is a 1985 graduate of Lanark High School, a 1989 summa cum laude graduate of Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, a 1992 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law where he served on the Moot Court Board of Editors during his second year of law school, and a 1994 graduate of the National District Attorneys Association Career Prosecutor Course. Brinkmeier is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Carroll County Bar Association, past member of the Mt. Carroll Lions Club, and a 2011 Reach Workcamp volunteer.
Brinkmeier is married to the former Denise Crouse, a 1986 Mt. Carroll High School graduate, and they reside in Mount Carroll with their two daughters. Brinkmeier is also the son of Norman, former Carroll County Treasurer, and Mary Brinkmeier of Lanark.
