Planning has been started for the 2013 Thomson Children’s Christmas Program. Applications are available at local businesses. Information needed includes name of child, age (newborn to high school senior), sizes of clothing and toys or games the child enjoys. Angels and Teddy Bears will be placed on trees at The Savanna Thomson State Bank, The Station and Heirloom Café before Thanksgiving. Angels will be for clothing gifts and Teddy Bears will be for toys and games. Area residents are encouraged to select one and provide a gift for a needy child. Food certificates will also be provided for needy families and adults. Monetary donations will be used for food certificates. Veterans’ Supper at the Heritage Center for all veterans, families and families of deceased veterans will be held at 6:30 P.M. Bring a dish to pass and table service. Eastland Veterans Day Observance
The Eastland School District, Lanark and Shannon American Legion Posts, the Lanark Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the Northwest Illinois Chapter of the Korean War and Korean Service Veterans Association are teaming up to observe Veterans Day on Monday, November 11th. The public is invited to attend the observance which will be held at the Eastland Jr/Sr High School new gym in Lanark at 8:30 a.m. Activities will start at Eastland Jr/Sr High School at 7:30 a.m. with an honor breakfast for veterans and their spouses. The Galena Elks Lodge is now accepting applications for scholarships through the Elks National Foundation. This scholarship is available to all high school seniors who are United States citizens.
