Lyle Beaver and the Brass Notes

Join us as we salute our veterans for a night of music and dancing at the Savanna Museum & Cultural Center, 406 Main St., Savanna. “Lyle Beaver and the Brass Notes” will be performing the best in dance music. Children’s Christmas Program

Planning has been started for the 2013 Thomson Children’s Christmas Program. Applications are available at local businesses. Information needed includes name of child, age (newborn to high school senior), sizes of clothing and toys or games the child enjoys. Angels and Teddy Bears will be placed on trees at The Savanna Thomson State Bank, The Station and Heirloom Café before Thanksgiving. Angels will be for clothing gifts and Teddy Bears will be for toys and games. Area residents are encouraged to select one and provide a gift for a needy child. Food certificates will also be provided for needy families and adults. Monetary donations will be used for food certificates. Donations may be sent to Smith or deposited at the Savanna Thomson State Bank in Thomson. One hundred new questions –10 questions from 10 categories – are ready to test the smarts of teams at the Carroll County Haiti Mission Project’s 14th Trivia Night fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Manny’s Pizza, Savanna. Veterans’ Supper

Veterans’ Supper at the Heritage Center for all veterans, families and families of deceased veterans will be held at 6:30 P.M. Bring a dish to pass and table service. Meat, drink & vegetable will be provided. Entertainment and door prizes will be provided. Friend’s of the Veteran’s Award will be presented to Eastland Fabrications for all the serves they have provided for the Mess Hall.

Dedication of Veterans Memorial

The Milledgeville Veterans Memorial Dedication Ceremony will be held Saturday, November 9, at 1:00 pm at the Memorial, located on Rt. 40, west of the Milledgeville High School. Rain date will be Sun., Nov. 10 at 4:00 pm.

Eastland Veterans Day Observance

The Eastland School District, Lanark and Shannon American Legion Posts, the Lanark Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the Northwest Illinois Chapter of the Korean War and Korean Service Veterans Association are teaming up to observe Veterans Day on Monday, November 11th. The public is invited to attend the observance which will be held at the Eastland Jr/Sr High School new gym in Lanark at 8:30 a.m. Activities will start at Eastland Jr/Sr High School at 7:30 a.m. with an honor breakfast for veterans and their spouses. Elks Scholarship Opportunities

The Galena Elks Lodge is now accepting applications for scholarships through the Elks National Foundation. This scholarship is available to all high school seniors who are United States citizens.
