Milledgeville Village Board Notes:
Old Mill Done Until Spring, Trustee Schmidt Resigns

By Mick Parsons For The Prairie Advocate News

MILLEDGEVILLE – At the September 19th, 2011 meeting of the Milledgeville Village Board, Matt Wagner reported that the work on the Old Mill Project is pretty much complete. There’s still another treatment for dust control that will be applied this year, the grass seeds are growing, and the driveways along are asphalted; the rest of the road work will be done next year after the gravel settles.

Trustee Bill Stage said, however, that he wasn’t happy with the job the box grader did on the road and that he hoped Kelsey Excavating would bring in something bigger to do a better job when they complete the road work. Trustee John Helms had some questions about dust control and asked why they didn’t cut the grass all the way to the side walk when they did the landscaping. Wagner said he would take a look at both issues and see what needs to be done.

Any other small problems will be added to the punch list.

Erikson Paving’s bid to asphalt along the sides of some of the streets was discussed. The Board is looking for a contractor to asphalt the edges so that the streets could be tarred and chipped next year. Erikson’s bid was over $30,000; but Jim Haag said that paying for good roads now will save the village money in the future. The roads are falling apart and will need to be redone at some point anyway, and Haag said it was important to maintain the good roads now.

The Trustees agreed to look into the problem more, since $30,000 is a lot money.

They also talked about the possibility of finding a contractor to work on the village sewer lines. Greg Miller mentioned in a previous meeting that some of the lines had roots growing in them. During the September 19th meeting Miller said he thought the village could hire the company for a day and focus on getting as much cleared and cleaned as possible. Miller also said there would be an initial fee for them to set up the equipment and added that he would look into it and get back to the Board.

Also at the September 19th meeting, Trustee Terry Schmidt tendered his resignation from the Village Board. The Board unanimously accepted his resignation with much regret, saying that he has done an amazing job and that they are sorry to see him go.

The Village of Milledgeville will be looking for someone to fill the vacancy left by Schmidt; if anyone is interested they should contact the Village Hall.

In other village news, the Trustees voted to accept a $1,970 bid from PDC for general maintenance on the water tower and lift station. They also voted to accept a $900 bid from Duane Plock to repair all four garage doors on the Village Maintenance Building.
