As Spring planting kicks off, focus is once again on roadway safety and slow moving vehicles, as farm equipment travels rural roads throughout the state. Most of this equipment is properly marked with slow moving vehicle identifiers and therefore legal, and not subject to fines. However, every now and then a SMV emblem crops up on a fencepost or driveway. This is considered illegal us-age in Illinois, subject to fines. Current legislation is pending to significantly raise fines (from $25 to $75) for improper use of SMV emblems. The Senate legislation has until the 15th to get out of the Senate. So if you or someone you know has improperly displayed a SMV, please be sure to remove it from its current location and display it properly!
Life here at the office certainly follows a cycle and lately the cycle has been the question if we do FOID card pictures. Yes, we certainly do and there is no charge for them. So if you are in that “cycle” that needs to renew yours, you can stop out at our office during normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to get your picture taken.
The 2011 Antique Tractor Drive will be taking place on Friday, June 10. I am trying to avoid the mid-summer storms. Now if we get a ton of rain this year, I think I am done trying to plan a tractor drive! Okay, not really but it does go to show my luck. Registration forms are out on our website at www.carrollcfb.org or you can call our office and we will send you one. We are going back in time to the route we first took which has us leaving Milledgeville, heading to Lanark, here at the office for lunch, back to Milledgeville through Chadwick. I have also decided this year I am not posting directional signage but instead will spray paint arrows on the road. There is no sense in wasting time trying to track down the wet, blown away signs!
If you have not signed up for our Progressive Ag Safety Day and Farm Family Safety Day, you still have time! We will take reservations up until April 25.
We will be holding the Progressive Ag Safety Day for children ages 6-13. We will focus on the following topics for them: ATV Safety, Animal Safety, Equipment Safety, Grain Safety, First Aid, and Chemical Safety. For the adults (anyone over 14), we will have Grain Safety, Tractor/PTO Safety, First Responder Techniques, Chemical Safety, and Law/ Requirements for Operators. Adult sessions will be presented by Stateline Farm Rescue, Carroll Service Company, and Kevin Rund with the Illinois Farm Bureau.
Cost is $5 per person or $20 a family. Parents, you do not have to stay if you don’t want too. We are strongly encouraging it, but it is not a requirement. If the day goes as planned, we hope to have Lifeline coming around noon. You may print off a registration form off our website or contact our office for us to mail you one. So send in your form by April 25.
This Friday we will be closing the office at 11:30 in observance of Good Friday. We hope everyone has a Happy Easter!
