Recent passage of a law to not allow anyone who votes on a Primary Ballot to run as an Independent in the Regular Election along with the Republican Central Committee not allowing party leaders to be elected in a democratic process, and ridiculous voter registration law; puts into question just how much control individuals have in the political process.
I commend Rep. Sacia for voting NO on HB 2009. See how you legislator voted on this bill HERE.
So, if you think that you might want to run in a Regular Election, don't be a good citizen and vote in the early process for whom you wish to represent you. This law effectively leaves our Primary process ineffective and just a joke.
Independent candidates for Governor must have 25,000 signatures vs 5,000 signatures for Republican or Democrat candidates.
In order to register to vote, a person only needs to submit a utility bill with their name and address. This in no way verifies citizenship as declared in the IL State Constitution. VOTER ID will only cause more problems as it is going down the slippery slope to REAL ID where you'll have to carry your papers with you wherever you go, not what the United States is about, but more akin to Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia.
What this is all about is that the Ruling Class in Illinois wants to keep their control of YOU and surreptitiously deny you of your voting rights and just letting you think you have a voice.
And now, the Republican Party will not allow rank and file members determine who their leadership is. It is held in the hands of a few and that means that a conservative voice will probably never be heard in Illinois. To learn the whole story, go to: THIS LINK.
Remember, what government giveth, it can also take away. Laws that you might think will benefit you can be used against you as well.
