I gave a quick run down on the breakfast count last week. We ended up having a very good day for the breakfast. Luckily it did not get as hot as it was supposed too. A big thank you goes to Thermogas in Lanark for allowing us to borrow their griddle and for propane; Mike Sweitzer and Eastland Fabrication for donating to us metal to use to cook the hashbrowns on the grill, and Janssen Farms for the hogs. Also a big thank you goes out to those who cooked, served, and cleaned up which included the Carroll County Farm Bureau Board of Directors and Women’s Committee for cooking, our office staff- Carly and Jessica, and COUNTRY Financial. We have a great group of volunteers who continue to give their time for our organization.
Congratulations go out to those who won the door prizes: Garmin (donated by COUNTRY Financial) – William Blattner; 16 ounce candle – Marion Zemke and John Pokropinski; 25 ounce Candle – Phyllis Forth, Allan Skoog, and Dan Merboth; Farm Bureau Gift Basket – Harlan Brunner and Elmer Merboth; Farm Bureau Embroidered Jacket – Nathan Lamoreux and Berry Williams; Carroll Service Fuel Card – Harrison Rowland and Lowell Dietz; Farm Bureau Cookbook – Ray Irion, JoDell Suiter, and Lyle Bremmer; Farm Bureau Personalized Gate Sign – James Kloepping, Charles Guenzler, Mary Morgan, and Joanne Donovan; Kids Combine – Koltin Dimmick; Tractor with Cultivator – Madeline Hartman; and Tractor with Wagon – Hannah Wallander. Congratulations to all those who won.
We are still looking for teams for the Ag Olympics. If you are between the ages of 8 and 100, and can get a group of 4 together to compete is some wild and zany games, contact our office for the entry form. The registration deadline is Monday, August 1. Cost is $10 per team. The Ag Olympics is replacing the Sheep Rodeo and Chicken Scramble at the Carroll County Fair. The event will take place on Thursday, August 11 starting at 5:30 p.m.
We do still have a few Cubs tickets left. I know I sound like a broken record, but we would hate for you to miss out. We are sitting in the loge outfield right where we sat last year. The seats are perfect even if they are at Miller Park and not Wrigley Field. The game we are going to is Saturday, August 27. It is a 6:10 p.m. game and we will be leaving at 1:45 p.m. Yes, the game is in Milwaukee and yes the Brewers are currently in first place, but has that ever scared a Cubs fan!? I personally am going, one because I love the Cubs and baseball, but two for the food at Miller Park! So if you have been on the fence about going, call our office, grab your glove and catch foul balls with us!
Illinois Farm Bureau President Philip Nelson will be hosting a Regional Farm Talk meeting in Dixon at the Elk’s Lodge on Thursday, August 4 at 11 a.m. The Farm Talk meetings are the perfect time to get an update on issues affecting agriculture. If you are interested in attending, reservations are due to our office today, Wednesday, July 27.
