Motorcycle Ride Cruises Through Lanark During Sesquicentennial Threshers Day

Breast cancer motorcycle ride planned Saturday, Aug. 20th Team Underwires are revving their motors up once again to raise funds to benefit the CGH Health Foundation Women’s Cancer Prevention Program and Home of Hope.

Team Underwires was founded in 2008 by Sandi Ivey and Tammy Campos.

Ivey commented, “Our volunteers are the heart of our organization. We have so many caring, compassionate members that are always willing to help. Breast cancer has touched every member of our committee in some way and each individual involved puts so much heart in to our events. They are the true soul of our organization.”

Team Underwires 4th annual Proud To Wear Pink!TM motorcycle ride will be Saturday, Aug. 20 . More than 1000 participants are expected to travel the scenic route, with registration from 10 a.m. to noon at Workman Harley-Davidson, Inc., 1903 Harley Davidson Dr., Rock Falls. Cost is $15 per person over the age of 16, $5 for passengers under the age of 16.

As the motorcycle entourage approaches Lanark, the route will be on Chambers Grove Road to Rt. 64, then north on RT. 73 (Broad St.) to the Lanark Fire station on W. Carroll St.

“Everyone along the route is encouraged to decorate in pink,” said Tricia Poffenberger, LFD- Public Relations Officer. “We are expecting them from noon till 3 p.m.” Pink Ribbon temporary tattoos will be available with all donations going to Home of Hope. If you need any more information contact Poffenberger.

Supporters are encouraged to travel by cars/trucks as well as motorcycles. Ivey, a breast cancer survivor, goes on to say. “The members of Team Underwires work hard all year to organize this event. We honor the strength, courage, hope and faith of the breast cancer patients and their families. This ride is a tribute to them.”

Bikes, mailboxes and roadside turns will be decorated in pink. The ride ends at 5 p.m., at Deer Valley Golf Club for the final festivities. Supporters will enjoy a chicken dinner provided by Candlelight Inn, live music by Terry Cox and Cal Stage, raffle items, and Proud to Wear Pink! contests. The grand finale is the drawing for a new Harley 883L, and a new Kymco Venox. Raffle tickets and are available at several businesses and through Team Underwires members.

Women and men in the Sauk Valley area will benefit from the funds raised. Last year, Team Underwires donated $60,000 to the CGH Health Foundation and Home of Hope. Team Underwires 2011 fundraising efforts included Guest bartending at Jeff’s Refs, a 5 KRun/Walk at SVCC, Pink Alley Rally by Champ’s and Depot and selling merchandise at the Sycamore Car Show. All these efforts build up to their main event, the Proud To Wear Pink!™ motorcycle ride on Saturday, August 20th.

They will host a Golf Outing on September 24th at Sunset Golf Club in Mt. Morris and They will end their season with a Sips N Dips Casual evening of celebration featuring hors d’oeuvres, a cocktail auction, dance and check presentation, on Friday Sept 30th at 6 p.m. at Deer Valley Golf Club.
