Synopsis of Chadwick-Milledgeville School Board Meeting

The Board of Education, CUSD #399, met Monday, August 16 in the Milledgeville High School Library. President Sandi Baylor Schmidt called the meeting to order at 7:03 P.M. with all members present. Under Old Business, the Board approved:

- student attendance on Columbus Day, October 11, 2010 & Casimir Pulaski Day, March 7, 2011.

- Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance company as the health insurance carrier for 2010-11 school year.

- a five-year contract with Stewart Beverage out of Rock Falls, Illinois.

- Milledgeville Principal Paula Rademacher’s contract for the 2010-11 school year.

- Early Step payment to West Carroll School District in the amount of $57,765.20.

Under New Business, the Board approved placing the proposed fiscal 2010-11 budget on display. The proposed budget will be available in the Chadwick and Milledgeville building offices for review the next 30 days.

The Board then approved the destruction of closed session minutes that are over 18 months old.

They heard reports from Assistant Superintendent Schurman on the upcoming Opening Day Institute August 18, 2010, and the first day of school August 19, 2010, and a report concerning 2010-11 projected enrollments for the coming year. Current enrollment is 521 which is down slightly from the previous year.

The Board also approved Health/Life Safety Emergency Board Resolution regarding asbestos abatement at the Chadwick building. This allows the district to amend our Life Safety Plan and utilize money from that fund to pay for the project; Approved hiring Midwest Environmental and Champion Environmental Services, Inc. to administer and abate the asbestos in the Chadwick building; Appointed through resolution Dr. Ed Olds/ Dr. Kent Johansen/Tim Schurman to review the draft audit; Then discussed proposed board policy updates from the IASB PRESS service. This was a first reading of the proposed policy changes.

Regarding personnel, the Board approved hiring the following personnel for 2010-11 school year: Library Aides Chadwick - Justin Miller, Milledgeville & Charlotte Frank; Special Education Aides: Milledgeville - Deb Herin, and Chadwick - Cathy Cornelius & Deloris Stiles; Milledgeville Office Aide & Recess Supervisor - Talisa Pauley; Chadwick Part-Time Cook - Jessica Jensen; Long Term Sub for Mr. Mayne - Gary Hartje; Hired Sarah Spears as head softball coach for the 2011 season.

The Board then approved the 2010-11 Chadwick-Milledgeville Teachers’ Contract. There will be no increase to the salary schedule for this contract year; however, staff will receive step and lane change increases. Some language changes were made as well. A 2% salary increase for non-certified personnel for 2010-11 school year was also approved.

In Administrative Business, a School District Audit was conducted Friday, August 6, 2010 - it went well and we should have a final report by late fall; Distributed Sex Offender List; Heard a report on Educational and Legislative Issues - Congress passed a 13 billion dollar education aid bill. This should help districts recoup some of the losses in state funding; Heard the Principal’s Report made by Paula Rademacher.

Assistant Superintendent’s Report given by Mr. Schurman included:

- Building Status - maintenance crews have done a great job and the buildings look great.

- Start of school - eager to get the year started - staff will be working on realigning our curriculum and developing Power Standards throughout this school year.

Community Forum

- Position vacancy - Milledgeville High School Play Director. Apply ASAP to H.S. Principal Paula Rademacher.

- WACC Board Meeting - enrollment up across region due to new tuition structure, new strategy in building trades.

- Handbooks (included in packets).

The meeting was adjourned at 9:49 p.m. The next regular Board meeting will be held Monday, September 20, 2010, at:

- 6:45 P.M. Special Budget Adoption Hearing in the Milledgeville High School Library;
