Carroll County Farm Bureau

By Chastity Welch, Farm Bureau Manager

As harvest starts, now is the perfect time to remind everyone to be on the lookout for slow moving vehicles. We are all guilty of getting caught up in the moment and hurrying here or there. The slower the vehicle in front of you, the less patience you have and the faster you want to go. Trust me, as I am often that person. However, when it comes to our farmers on the road, somehow I have more patience, as I know that with their big equipment I will not win and possibly not survive.

Farm implements are large machines. The closer you follow them, the harder it is for them to see you. Sometimes they even take up two lanes which makes it harder to pass. You also need to be aware of any reason they may need to move over and take over more of the other lane. Farm equipment also make big wide turns. When they are pulling to the side of the road, do not assume they are pulling over to allow you to pass, they may just be preparing to turn. Also pay close attention to the turn signals, especially before passing.

Farm tractors typically only move at top speeds of 15 to 20 mph so it is easy to catch up to them rather quickly. Watch out for the SMV symbol on the back of vehicles and be sure to start slowing down.

If you have not paid your 2013-2014 membership dues yet, you have until October 1 to pay them before the $10 late fee takes effect. You can pay your dues by mailing a check to our office, or we do have the capability of taking debit and credit cards over the phone.

We just received our fall/holiday candle scents in. While some of our customer favorites are no longer available, BeanPod did come out with some great new scents to replace them. For instance we now have spiced caramel cookie and roasted chestnuts. Stop by today to get your favorite scent before they are gone.
