The regular meeting of the Chadwick-Millewdgeville School Board was held Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at the Milledgeville HS Library.
After Consent agenda items were all approved, the Board heard Public Comments.
The Board signed thank you letters to Culver’s of Sterling for their donation of certificates, and to Cornerstone Chiropractic of Mt. Carroll for their donation of school supplies.
Under Old Business, the Board approved the Fiscal 2012 Budget, and Board policy revisions and updates - second reading Press Update Issue #76, were approved.
In new Business, approved 2011-2012 Applications for Recognition of Schools, a yearly requirement by the Illinois State Board of Education;
Approved FFA Trip to National Convention in Indianapolis on October 19-21. Ten students plan to attend; Approved Superintendent Schurman to seek snow removal bids.
The following graduation dates and times were also approved:
- Milledgeville High School Graduation Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the high school gym.
- Chadwick Junior High 8th Grade Promotion Friday, May 25, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. in the junior high gym. (Note: this date is subject to change if the school needs to use emergency days).
Regarding Personnel Issues, the Board accepted the resignation of Justin Miller as Chadwick Library Aide; Approved the hire of Chadwick Assistant Cook Mrs. Angie Sucher; Approved the hire of Chadwick Special Education Instructional Aide/Library Aide Mrs. Opal Kleckler (classified officially as Special Education Aide); Approved the hire of long term substitute Ms. Jessica Peugh to serve as Art Teacher during Mrs. Andrea Jordan’s leave of absence; Approved a change in Ms. Gena Gray’s job responsibilities to include Library Aide, RtI, and Special Education Aide (classified officially as Teachers Aide); and upheld student suspensions.
In Administrative Business, Mrs. Kim Gebhardt was appointed as IASB Chicago Convention Delegate.
A report on September 23, 2011, School Improvement Teacher Institute was given, as was an Early Step Preschool Report.
Educational and Legislative Issues report by Mr. Schurman revealed that consolidation, TRS reform, and education reform will be hot topics over the next year. Other administrative reports included:

- Superintendent’s Report: District mission, vision, goals, and core values distributed and communicated; All sports are well into their seasons; JH magazine sales went well - kudos to Mrs. McKenna for doing a good job administering this fundraiser. Students sold over $12,000 in subscriptions this year; New employees off to a good start.
Supt. Schurman also reported that the Chadwick scoreboard project by the Milledgeville Men’s Club, Milledgeville State Bank, THE National Bank, and Mr. Mayne’s fundraisers have virtually paid for the entire $7,245 cost of the project!
Regarding the Milledgeville crows nest project, the Milledgeville Men’s Club has offered to provide the labor for the project if the school pays for the materials. They will re-side the building and install new windows. The project should cost approximately $3,000.
The Public School Works Staff Training Program is a new web based staff development and safety training program. For $400 per year, the entire staff will receive all state and federal mandated training programs and transcript records will be maintained by Public School Works as documentation of completion. Staff will receive training in the following areas: safety, blood borne pathogens, sexual harassment, ethics, bullying prevention, and much more.
