The Morrison Boy Scout Troop 96 selflessly spent the morning of Paint the Town painting a much larger square in the Morrison community. They chose to give back to the community by repainting the surface of the Morrison Community Hospital’s helipad. The scouts committed themselves to two weekends in order to complete the community project.
The scouts who participated in the project were Brian Gire, Alex and Evan Ernst, Rylan Hagerman, Christian Ufkin and Jordan McGarvey. Also present to help guide the troop were Mark Ernst, Dan McGarvey, and Dean Ufkin. The boy scouts are always willing to help any non-profit project that benefits the community in some way.
“It is important to do projects like painting the helipad to keep the scouts and everyone else in the community active and supportive. These projects help get the boy scouts name out there and give the organization and the community a good name. Being a scout is very important to help you develop assets and values to help you excel in life. It builds character and if you get to the honored rank of Eagle Scout, you will no doubt be a better person, but you will also have something great to put on a resume,” said Jordan McGarvey.
The Morrison Boy Scout Troop 96 has fundraisers throughout the year to help support their activities and projects. They sell pork chops on the Community State Bank corner in the summer, have popcorn sales in the late fall and recently added a new event, a spaghetti supper. The communities support is always greatly appreciated.
If you would like to learn more about how to sign a young man up for boy scouts or would like to support their future efforts please contact Joe Screnock or Arlen Hayen. The scouts also have a meeting once a week at 7 pm on the second floor of the Methodist Church in Morrison, IL. The motto of the boy scouts is “Be Prepared”. This organization is doing a great job of preparing these young men with life skills and creating future community leaders along the way.
