Despite trailing at halftime 12-7, the Morrison Mustangs started the second half hitting on all cylinders, crushing the Gibson City Falcons 42-18 and advancing to Friday's state championship game against Maroa-Forsyth at 1 p.m. in Champaign. The top ranked and undefeated Mustangs broke out scoring 21 points to start the third quarter and kept on cruising behind the play of QB Andrew Cook and running backs Josh Vos and Kyle Janssen.
The Morrison defense was also up to the task, making numerous stops and holding a very good Falcon offense to eighteen. With the win, Morrison will be playing for a state title for the very first time in school history.
The Mustangs got on the board first as QB Andrew Cook found Josh Vos on a nineteen yard strike to make it 7-0 Morrison, Gibson City got on the board on a six yard run by Michael Romshek but the two point conversion failed to make the score 7-6. Gibson City would then take the lead as they marched down the field seventy one yards, where QB Stephan Brit found Cody Gaesser with a forty four yard scoring strike, to give the Falcons a 12-7 lead.

It only took the Mustangs a little over a minute into the third quarter to regain the lead as Cook hit Vos on the left side and he went sixty four yards for the go ahead TD. Kyle Janssen the went into the end zone from a yard out to make the score 21-12. Janssen again found pay dirt as he broke three tackles and made the score 28-12 on a thirty three yard run.
Morrison put twenty one points on the board in around five and a half minutes and the Falcons were down big. Janssen would score again from thirty yards out to make the score 35-12 Morrison and the celebration was beginning.
The Falcons did manage to find the end zone once more as Brit hit Romshek for a fifty three yard score but it was too little to late. Janssen scored another touchdown from twenty six yards out to make the final 42-18 margin of victory.
Vos carried the ball 24 times for 126 yards and Janssen added 13 rushes for 114 yards.
