A large flock of Black-Capped Chickadees were in thick in the lower branches of the tall, old evergreen in our backyard. It was during one of those 90º days which were so numerous this summer. The lawn sprinkler lazily bent backward and forward covering the birds with crystal droplets so like gems sparkling in the sunlight. Each needle of the branch showered the little birds who quivered their feathers for an additional cooling.

Lanark Couple to Celebrate 70th Wedding Anniversary

Lowell (Bud) Dietz and Arlene VonHolten were married on September 6, 1942 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls, IL. They will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on September 9th at the Maxon River Boat with family.

They are the parents of twelve children: Carol Dietz, Nancy Guenzler, Connie (Bob) Zuck and Don (Vonnie) Dietz of Lanark; Jane (Mike) Mullins of Rockford; Larry (Julie) Dietz and Anita (Bill) Pinnow of Freeport; Bill (Deb) Dietz of Lena; Ed (Patricia) Dietz of Greenleaf, WI; Bob (Nancy) Dietz of Ava, MO; and Linda (Monte) Ballard of Stillman Valley.

They have 33 grandchildren, two of whom are deceased. 47 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.

Mailands Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Earle Mailand celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 8, 2012, with a family dinner at their home in Byron.

The Mailands are former residents of both Thomson and Milledgeville. Ella Watson of Joliet and Earle Mailand of Leaf River, were married on September 8, 1962 at the First Baptist Church of Joliet.

The couple has three children; Libby (Randy) Wilson of St. Peters, MO, Leah (Doug) Fletcher of El Paso, IL, and Lindy (Dave) Meyer of Marseilles, IL, and four grandchildren; Alicia and Abby Wilson, and Jeff and Emily Fletcher.
