Eastland opened their season by outscoring the visiting AFC Raiders twenty two to eleven in the opening quarter and cruised to the 83-29 win on Tuesday at EHS. The Cougars extended that lead to forty seven to twenty at the half and led sixty seven to twenty five after three periods.
Eastland had twelve different players contribute in scoring with senior guard Reid Lessman leading all scorers with twenty. Teammate Collin Macomber added fifteen and junior forward Tyler Giedd scored twelve points. Ermir Ramadani led the Raiders with eleven points in the loss.
The host Forreston Lady Cardinals used a pressing defense and timely scoring to keep the visiting West Carroll Lady Thunder at bay and scored the easy 69-22 victory Tuesday night in Forreston.
Forreston used their press to hold the Lady Thunder to four first and second quarter points while putting up thirty seven first half points of their own. Forreston extended their lead to fifty five to sixteen after three quarters and rolled to the easy win.
Lady Thunder head coach Paula Jones said of her team’s performance, “We made some silly mistakes against their press and dug ourselves a hole we couldn’t get out of. The one bright spot tonight was Sophi Morhardt. She was outstanding on both ends of the court and did everything she could to keep us in this game.” Holly Kortemeier led the Lady Cardinals, pouring in twenty points. Teammate Ketarah DeVries added fourteen and Emily Korf and Anna Drake scored ten points each. West Carroll was led by Sophi Morhardt’s nine points.
The host Bulldogs played just well enough to eke out the narrow 44-33 victory over the visiting Milledgeville Missiles on Thursday evening in Durand.

The visiting West Carroll Thunder jumped out to a nine point first quarter lead enroute to the 68-48 win over River Ridge on Thursday night.
West Carroll extended that lead to eleven at the half. A big third quarter had the Thunder outscoring the Wildcats by sixteen to jump their lead to fifty two to twenty five. On a cold and snowy Saturday, ten teams met at EHS in Lanark for the 4th Annual Eastland Shootout.
The day’s games began with the Warren Warriors meeting the Fulton Unity Knights. The Knights couldn’t seem to buy a bucket as the Warriors cruised to the 48-26 victory in the opening game.
Next up was the Eastland Lady Cougars facing the Milledgeville Lady Missiles. The story was much the same for Milledgeville as Eastland jumped out to the twenty three to four first quarter lead and rolled to the 51-29 win.
The third game of the day saw the first close game as the Annawan Braves took on the Pearl City Wolves. The game was back and forth with the Braves finally pulling out the six point 56-50 victory.
Game four pitted the Erie Cardinals against the West Chicago Wildcats. The Wildcats managed to hold off the Cardinals in the final quarter to take the 61-48 win.
The night’s finale saw the Forreston Cardinals take on the host Eastland Cougars. Much like the first two games, Eastland couldn’t seem to buy a basket as the Cardinals cruised to the lopsided 6-33 win.
