It’ll Do Your Heart Good:
Give During National Canned Food Month

By Lynnette Forth For The Prairie Advocate News

February is National Canned Food Month, and Aimee Rogers of Rogers Photography is planning an event to raise contributions for the local food pantry. Whether the economy is booming or collapsing, people all over the world need food. Rogers Photography will be collecting items for the pantry at their studio located at 731 Eaton Street in Savanna.

On Sunday February 26th from 10 a.m to 4 p.m, Rogers Photography will be providing a free sitting fee to patrons that bring in food items. Rogers has been providing professional photos for two years, but has loved taking pictures her whole life. “I want to be able to give people those memories,” Rogers said.

Aimee has volunteered her photo services to many local charities and events in the area, participating in the Relay 4 Life fundraisers, and events for the PTO. For more information contact Rogers at .

Sarah Mucerino, a student The Prairie Advocate News reported on last year, has continued to give to local food pantries. Mucerino participated in a project for Girl Scouts, which helped to raise a considerable amount of donations for the Lanark/Shannon local food pantry. Having established permanent donation boxes within the community, Mucerino continues to support the pantry by having started a family donation box in her own home.

“Whenever my mom or I go to the grocery store shopping, we keep an eye out for good deals and sales. Then, once our box fills up, we bring the food we have collected to the pantry. A personal donation box is a great idea for any family.”

Since completing her food pantry project, Mucerino noted that Bill Foust of Foust Signs in Shannon has created a new sign which now stands in front of the pantry building.

“A big thank you to Mr. Foust for donating the sign,” Mucerino gratefully acknowledged.

Food has continuously been collected with the three donation boxes located in Shannon and Lanark, advertisements have continued to be printed, and she has presented the final project and documentation to the Girl Scout Council.

“I am so pleased to see the community become actively involved in an effort to support the pantry. I hope that the pantry has gained the support it has needed to provide its service to those in need. I would like to thank everyone as well for all they have done to contribute to not only my project, but to the pantry as well.

“What I have learned from this is that we can all accomplish whatever goals we set if we put our minds and hearts into it and have the help of others. We can all make a difference, we just have to try,” Mucerino said.
