Alejandro "Alex" Pacas, age 19, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in a grain elevator accident in Mt. Carroll. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll.
Donald “Bub” Adolph
Donald “Bub” Adolph, age 90, formerly of Chadwick, died Monday July 19, 2010 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll.
Bub was born on December 7, 1919 in Fairhaven Township rural Chadwick the son of Charles and Flossie (Hiller) Adolph. He married Lois Groharing on August 15, 1942 in Mt. Carroll. She preceded him in death on December 14, 2005. Bub was a lifelong farmer in Fairhaven Township.
Survivors include one daughter, Becky (David) Oberbillig of Rock Falls; three sons, Kevin (DiAnn) Adolph of Chadwick, Michael (Nancy) Adolph of Savanna and Larry (Pam) Adolph of Mt. Carroll; three sisters, Phyllis VenHuizen of Morrison, Lois King and Florence Tripp both of Chadwick; 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Saturday July 24, 2010 at Fairhaven Cemetery, Chadwick with Reverend Robert Ziebarth of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Carroll officiating. There is no visitation. Following the graveside service the family invites everyone to a celebration of Bub’s life at Uncle Hoser’s in Chadwick. Arrangements were completed by the McDonald Funeral Home in Milledgeville.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
Mabel L. Riley
Mabel L. Riley, 98 of Rock Falls died Tuesday July 20, 2010 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling.
She was born on July 12, 1912 in Patoka, IL the daughter of Clarence and Gertie (Goodwin) Bowen. She married Fred W. Riley on June 19, 1937 in Rock Falls. He died October 20, 1968. She was employed at the former Ideal Cleans for many many years before retiring and was a member of the Rock Falls Christian Church.
Surviving is her daughter, Linda (James) Miller of Thomson; one sister Marjorie Jean Simpson of Old Appleton, MO; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter Betty (Darrell) Bellows; and 7 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls with the Reverend Ruth Ann Jones officiating. Burial will be at Coloma Twp Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday from 10:30 - 12noon at the funeral home.
A memorial will be established.
Rose Kerzman
Rose (Schmidt) Kerzman, 99m Bismarck, North Dakota, died June 30, 2010, at the Baptist Home, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant. burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Tacoma, WA.
Visitation was held Tuesday, July 6 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan with a parish rosary/vigil beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Rose was born April 24, 1911 to Michael and Wilhemena (Emineth) Walter. She was raised and educated in Rosebud, North Dakota. After marrying Chris Schmidt of Center on Oct. 15, 1929, Rose and Chris farmed in the Center area until 1961. In November, 1961 they moved to Tacoma, WA to be with family; Chris died in 1971. Rose moved back to North Dakota and married Anthony Kerzman of Garrison on July 23, 1983. A hardworking wife and mother, Rose took excellent care of both her home and family. She took great pride in cooking her favorite German dishes, especially kasenip. She was also well known by many to make the best caramel rolls.
Generous and caring, she will be remembered for her exquisite hospitality to visitors. She would often invite priests over for dinner and entertainment, where she got to know them very well. Rose loved company and would always kindly remind you to come visit her by asking, “When are you coming to see me?” She enjoyed getting to know people and having everyone enjoy themselves while they visited. She would also never let you forget that she loved you by frequently saying “I love you” to those closest to her. Quilting and crocheting were things Rose always enjoyed doing. She made sure that every child, grandchild, great grandchild and great-great grandchild had their very own quilt made by her.
Left with many memories are her husband, Anthony, Garrison; four daughters, Hildegard (Steven) Bachmeier and Donna Mae Olson, both of Mandan, Lorraine (Bill) Stutzman, Hanover, IL; and Connie (Doug) Livengood, Mt. Carroll, IL; four sons, George (Roberta) Schmidt, Sumner, WA; and Jerald Schmidt, Manda; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Schmidt, Shannon, IL; six stepchildren, Myron Kerzman; Bernadine (Larry) Ellwein; Phyllis (Craig) Cumings; Robert (Selma) Kerzman; Charles (Becky) Kerzman; Tom (Nancy) Kerzman; 43 grandchildren; 107 great-grandchildren; 73 great-great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; 26 step-great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and one step-great-great-grandchild on the way.
Rose was preceded in death by her first husband, Chris Schmidt; her parents; one son, Edward Schmidt; three sisters, Monica Messer, Frances Klein and Katie Schmidt; three brothers, Sebastian, John and Steve Walter; one daughter-in-law, Christine Schmidt; four sons-in-law, Clem Yantzer, Jack Barth, Gordon Olson and Harland Bates; and six grandchildren, Diane Yantzer, Douglas Edwin, Chris, David and Terry Schmidt.
