Catz End Dakota’s Winning Streak

By Craig Lang, Prairie Advocate Sports

The Dakota Indians traveled to Pearl City on Friday night riding a thirty-five game regular season and twenty-nine game conference winning streak. They traveled back to Dakota with that streak behind them as the EPC Wildcatz dealt them a 25-20 defeat.

On homecoming night for EPC, they play almost flawlessly on both sides of the football. Visiting Dakota got on the scoreboard first though, scoring on a Jacob Apple forty four yard run early. But, the Catz answered right back with back Aaron Reed finding the end zone from ten yards out to knot the score in the first quarter.

The Indians would find paydirt again in period two but again EPC had an answer as quarterback Drake Walker found Kevin Glastetter for a thirty two yard score. Zack Moyer’s extra point gave the Catz a thirteen to twelve half time advantage. The Catz would extend their lead as back Reed would find the end zone two more times on runs of seventy two and one yards.

Dakota did manage one more score with a little over a minute left to play but it was too little, too late as EPC’s defense held the Indians in check. Reed led the EPC ground game, carrying the ball twenty one times for one hundred ninety four yards and three scores. EPC also took the preliminary game, shutting out Dakota fifty five to nothing. The Catz host Chicago St. Francis de Sales Saturday in Lanark.

Mustangs Slip By Rams

By Craig Lang, Prairie Advocate Sports

The Morrison Mustang’s Brandon Belt returned a first quarter kickoff ninety yards for a score and that would be all the scoring they would need as they slipped by the Port Byron/Riverdale Rams on Friday night 12-0.

Morrison would add a second quarter nine yard scoring strike from quarterback Danny Dennehey to Will Bird to make the final margin of victory. After the halftime intermission, both offenses and defenses fell silent as no more scoring would occur.

The Morrison squad hosts the Ottawa Crusaders in their week six match up.

West Carroll Pounds Polo

By Craig Lang, Prairie Advocate Sports

The Thunder racked up three hundred eleven yards of total offense as they ran past the Polo Marcos 47-7 on Friday night in Polo. Despite the score being knotted at seven in the second quarter, West Carroll reeled off forty straight points to put the game out of reach.

Thunder quarterback Matt LaShelle had a huge night for West Carroll as he racked up two hundred ninety three yards through the air. The Marcos were able to gain their only edge in the game on the ground as they out rushed West Carroll one hundred fourteen yards to the Thunder’s eighteen. But, the aerial attack was too much for the Polo squad to overcome.

West Carroll travels to South Beloit to take on the Sobos on Frdiay night and the Marcos will host the AFC Raiders.

Pirates Dominate the Missiles

By Craig Lang, Prairie Advocate Sports

With injuries decimating their team, the Milledgeville Missiles gave a valiant effort against the Galena Pirates on Friday night in Galena, falling to the Pirates 55-0. Galena’s Tyler DePlessis scored three times for the Pirates as they dominated Milledgeville on both sides of the football.

The next opponent for Milledgeville will be the East Dubuque Warriors as Milledgeville still looks for capture their first victory of the season. Galena will host the Freeport Aquin Bulldogs.

Cardinals Crush South Beloit

By Craig Lang, Prairie Advocate Sports

Running back Hunter Hake ran the football for two touchdowns as the Forreston Cardinals shut out the South Beloit Sobos 37-0 on Friday night in South Beloit. The Cardinals took control of the game and controlled the game on both sides of the ball. Forreston will host the Dakota Indians in a week six matchup as South Beloit will play hosts to the West Carroll Thunder. The victory gave Forreston three wins on the season.
