Hinckley-Big Rock 50 Pearl City 39
The Lady Royals proved to be too much for the Lady Wolves as Hinckley-Big Rock took the win. Jenna Canon led Pearl City in scoring with thirteen points and teammate Ashley Cropper added ten. Twenty five turnovers plagued the Pearl City squad and aided the Lady Royals in the win. Pearl City coach Mike Lee said, “Simply put, we need to be more aggressive and take the ball at them in the post. The bottom line is, I am seeing improvement, especially defensively.”
Orion 83 West Carroll 23
The Lady Chargers took control of the game, outscoring the Lady Thunder nineteen to four in the first quarter. Orion held a forty two to twelve lead at the half and never looked back as they cruised to the easy win. Aliesha Handel led West Carroll in scoring with seven points.
Pearl City 51 Hiawatha 36
Behind the scoring of the Lady Wolves Ashley Cropper (14 points) and Jenna Canon (13 points), Pearl City squeezed by the Lady Hawks. Limiting their turnover from the previous game to only ten helped Pearl City to the victory. Coach Lee commented, “We played great team defense and ran the floor well. We also looked for our opportunities on offense.”
Prophetstown 56 West Carroll 26
The Lady Prophets took control early and rolled to the thirty point win. Catherine Medrano and Jenna Forward led Prophetstown with eleven points each. Kylee Vos led the Lady Thunder with eight points. West Carroll coach Ron Sietz said, “The Lady Thunder started out slowly. Our interior defense let us down as we let them have too many close shots and second and third chances at the offensive basket. On the positive side, we tried a new defense against them to neutralize their biggest scoring threat and it succeeded. Unfortunately, they are such a deep team, that the other players compensated in scoring points.”
Riverdale 58 West Carroll 26
The Lady Rams used a big second half scoring drive and cruised to the thirty two point win. Ieshia Larson led West Carroll with nine points and Aliesha Handel added eight. Ciach Sietz said, “The Lady Thunder started out aggressively against a top team and two lights out shooters. We deployed a 1-2-1-1 zone defense to diffuse their three point shooters and it worked the entire first half. Riverdale scores in bunches and we held them to twenty eight first half points. Offensively, we couldn’t get into a rhythm. They pressed us hard, man to man, and it shook us up for a while but we were able to overcome it. We had too many turnovers and that is never good. We are hoping for a better showing versus Hiawatha tomorrow. Individually, Ieshia Larson, our junior center, played with a purpose and scored a team high nine points, as well as hauling down an incredible eleven rebounds.”
