EPC Quiets The Storm

It was EPC’s special teams play that got things going in Lanark on Saturday afternoon. The Catz Kevin Glastetter took the opening kickoff of the contest eighty four yards to pay dirt to put EPC on the scoreboard first.

Then it was EPC’s defense that got tough, holding Bureau Valley in check and off the scoreboard. The Wildcats would put another special teams score on the board in the first quarter as Mack Byers blocked a punt and Jordan Blair picked up the ball and ran thirteen yards to put the Catz up by two scores.

The second and third quarters were scoreless on both sides of the ball as the defenses buckled down to limit the other team. The Storm would manage to get on the board in the final quarter as Tanner Schoff found the end zone from two yards out to cut the score to 14-7.

But, EPC came right back with a five and a half minute, thirteen play drive. Quarterback Drake Walker found Joe Harrington on a nineteen yard touchdown strike to extend the lead back to fourteen for the Catz.

Running back Aaron Reed led EPC’s ground game, running the football twenty four times for seventy yards. The Storm’s Brad Sanden ran the ball thirteen times for sixty one yards.

Mustangs Roll Over Rockridge

By Craig Lang, Prairie Advocate Sports

The host Morrison Mustangs put up twenty eight first half points and cruised to the lopsided 49-12 first round playoff victory over the Rockridge Rockets on Saturday at Bud Cole Field.

The Morrison Mustang defense controlled the Rockridge Rockets in the first round
playoff game at Morrison. The Mustangs rolled to a 49-12 victory, and will travel to Lanark to play the E-PC Wildcatz in round two, 2A IHSA playoff action.

The Mustangs Danny Willis returned a punt 44 yards to put Morrison on the board first. A four yard pass from QB Danny Dennehey to Dylon Smith made it 12-0 Stangs. A two point conversion extended the Morrison lead to fourteen.

The Rockets cut the lead to eight in the second period as Hunter Frakes found Zach Foster to a 52 yard scoring strike. Morrison’s Will Bird countered with a 28 yard run to make it 21-6.

Andy Schaver scored from twenty one yards out to open the second half and the out was on. Rodkridge managed to find the end zone again in the final quarter but it was too little too late as the host Mustangs used their reserves to finish the contest.

Schaver led the Morrison rushing attack with ten carries for eighty eight yards while teammate Will Bird added seventy eight yards on four carries with a score. Quarterback Dennehey completed eight of sixteen passes for one hundred forty one yards and three scores.

The 9-1 Mustangs travel to Lanark to take on the 9-1 EPC Wildcats.
