On Monday evening in Milledgeville the host Lady Missiles gave the Lady Cardinals all they could handle. Taking the game to overtime, Milledgeville fell to Forreston 40-37.
The Lady Missiles held a slim two point lead at the half and Forreston clawed their way back to tie the score at the end of regulation. Junior Ketarah DeVries sealed the game for Forreston in the overtime period, scoring all six of Forreston’s points to secure the win.
DeVries led all scorers in the contest, pouring in fifteen points and adding twelve rebounds while teammate Holly Kortemeier added thirteen points. Alexis DawTyne led the Lady Missiles with nine points and Stephanie Workman and Rebecca Whitmarsh added eight apiece.
The West Carroll Lady Thunder traveled to East Dubuque on Monday night and the host Warriors were up to the task, taking the victory 62-43.
East Dubuque jumped out to a nine point first quarter lead and extended that to fifteen by the half. The third quarter saw the Warriors jump ahead forty eight to thirty and the Lady Thunder couldn’t recover.
Lady Thunder head coach Paula Jones commented, “We played too tentative tonight. We made careless passes and didn’t get back on defense which really cost us this game. If we are going to have any success this year, we need to play with more confidence. The one bright spot was Aliesha Handel. She was great on both ends of the court. I was really proud of how hard she played and it showed on the court and in the stats.” Handel led the Lady Thunder with seventeen points.

Pearl City Scores Easy Victory

The Pearl City girl’s basketball team hosted Galena on Thursday evening and came away with the easy 46-31 victory. The Lady Wolves jumped out to a sixteen to three first quarter lead and by early in the second period led by twenty.
Pearl City’s defense held the Lady Pirates to single digit scoring in the first three quarters while building up a large lead and cruising to the win. Kelsie Kluck led the Pearl City squad in the scoring column with fourteen points while teammate Ashley Cropper adding a dozen.

River Ridge/Scales Mound Downs Eastland

In a game that was marred by first quarter turnovers, the Wildcats used a fifteen to nothing run to pull ahead and roll to the 50-32 victory Thursday night in Lanark.
The opening quarter found neither team able to score much as the River Ridge squad committed twelve turnovers to the Lady Cougars eleven. The Wildcats led by a narrow nine to five margin to end the first but extended that lead to twenty one to nine at the half.
Eastland closed the gap to nine points to begin the final quarter but it was too much Whitney Kieffer as she accounted for fifteen of the Wildcat’s twenty nine second half points. Kieffer led all scorers in the contest, scoring twenty two with teammate Kaitlyn Pleau adding eleven points. Annabelle Borota led Eastland with ten points and Taylor Ruter contributed seven.

Pearl City Edges Freeport Aquin

The Lady Wolves used a big second half to take the victory over Freeport Aquin 40-38 on Saturday evening in Pearl City. Despite trailing by seven at the end of the first quarter and by six at the half, Pearl City outscored Aquin twenty five to seventeen the rest of the way to take the win.
A trio of three pointers by Chelsey Doubler propelled Pearl City into the lead by the start of the final quarter. The Lady Wolves hit four of seven free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Doubler’s thirteen points led Pearl City while teammate Kelsie Kluck added nine. Sophie Brunner of Aquin topped all scorers in the game with seventeen.

Lady Panthers Edge Eastland

Le-Win finally found a way to break through, scoring sixteen fourth quarter points to take the 51-44 win over Eastland on Saturday night in Pearl City. The Lady Panthers trailed by five at the half and were down by a single point going into the final quarter. Le-Win managed to find the basket with more frequency than Eastland in the final frame and hit four out of five fourth quarter free throws to seal the win.
Larynn Shumaker paced the Le-Win team, scoring a game high twenty one points enroute to the victory. Teammate Katie Jansen added fifteen. Taylor Ruter led the Lady Cougars in scoring with fifteen points.

Aquin Cruises Past Milledgeville

The home team Bulldogs took a thirteen point first quarter lead enroute to the 62-43 victory over the visiting Missiles on Tuesday night in Freeport. Aquin extended their lead to fifteen at the half and led by twenty at the end of three quarters.
It was a game of three point shooting as Freeport connected for ten from beyond the arc and Milledgeville hit eight three’s. Aquin’s Zach Martin topped all scorers with sixteen points and teammate Patrick Schmelzle adding twelve. Brady Kness led Milledgeville with fourteen points and Keegan Neubauer added eleven.
The visiting Morrison Mustangs held a three point first quarter lead and had a good second half to take the narrow 43-40 victory over the host Prophetstown squad. Despite trailing by two points at the halftime intermission, the Mustangs outscored Prophetstown twenty one to sixteen in the second half to come away with the win. The victory improves Morrison’s record to two and five on the season. Junior Luke Brands led the Mustangs scoring attack, pouring in eleven points while teammate Dylon Smith added ten.

Cougars Dominate Blackhawks

The Eastland Cougars traveled to Stockton on Wednesday evening and came home with the 69-46 win. The Cougars jumped out to the early eleven point first quarter lead and outscored Stockton in the second quarter twenty three to twelve to extend the halftime lead to twenty two points.
By the end of the third quarter Eastland had extended that lead to twenty seven points and cruised to the easy win. Eastland was led in the scoring column by Collin Macomber, who poured in eighteen points while teammate Tyler Giedd added fourteen.

The Eastland Cougars jumped out to a twenty to six first quarter lead and cruised to the 70-55 victory over the Pearl City Wolves on Friday night in Lanark.
Eastland extended that lead to sixteen points by the half and twenty six at the end of three. The Cougars had ten players put points on the scoreboard, led by Reid Lessman and Collin Macomber, who scored sixteen points apiece.
The Wolves were led by Zach Moyer’s sixteen points while teammate Colton Bastian scored thirteen and Jason Kurth added a dozen.

The Thunder opened up a sixteen fo five first quarter lead and rolled to the fifty nine to thirty eight win over Stockton on Friday evening. West Carroll extended that lead to nineteen by the halftime intermission and led by twenty five after three periods. Brady Edwards led the Thunder, pouring in sixteen points with ten rebounds while teammate Eric Naples added thirteen points.
Thunder head coach Josh Knuth, commenting on his teams performance said, “We played with some good energy throughout the night. Our defense was very good in the first half. I give Stockton a lot of credit, they played really hard. We have a lot of execution things to clean up to get to the level we need to be at.”

Cougars Top Stockton

Topped by center Collin Macomber’s twenty one points, the Eastland Cougars rolled to the 48-36 win over the Stockton Blackhawks at the West Carroll Holiday Tournament. Eastland jumped out to the seventeen to twelve first quarter lead and extended that lead to nine by the half.
The second half saw the lead grow to eleven points by the start of the final quarter and the Cougars maintained their lead to finish strong and take the contest. The Cougars hit seven of eleven fourth quarter free throws to seal the win. Austin Hansen and Reid Lessman added seven points apiece for the Cougars.
The West Carroll Lady Thunder varsity and fresh/soph basketball teams will participate in the Polo tournament on December 13th-17th. The F/S games will be held at Centennial Elementary School at 308 S. Pleasant. The varsity games will be played at Polo High School at 100 Union Avenue.
Adult tickets are $4.00 and students are $3.00. Forreston, Oregon, Morrison, Polo, Byron, Milledgeville and Prophetstown will also be competing. Both West Carroll teams will play Prophetstown on Tuesday, December 14th at 6:15; Milledgeville at 5:00 on December 15th and Byron at 6:15 on December 16th. December 17th championship games will be determined after games are finished December 16th.
The West Carroll freshman boy’s basketball team will compete in the Oregon Christmas tournament on December 17th and 18th. Games will be played at the Blackhawk Center and Oregon High School gymnasium.
Other teams participating are Oregon, Le-Win, North Boone, Forreston, Sterling Newman, Indian Creek, Central, Winnebago, Princeton, Stillman Valley, East Moline United Township, Mendota, Fulton, Byron and Freeport Aquin.
West Carroll will play their first game on Friday, December 18th at 5:20 with United Township. Tickets will be $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.
The West Carroll wrestling team will participate in the Stillman Valley Holiday tournament on Saturday, December 18th. Other teams entered are Aledo, Amboy, Dakota, Walther Lutheran, Le-Win, Oregon, Riverdale, Rockridge, Princeton, Winnebago and Stillman Valley.
The first session will start at 9:00 a.m. Concessions will be available throughout the tournament. Admission will be: Students $5.00 all day pass or $3.00 for the finals only. Adults $6.00 all day pass or $4.00 for finals only.
