Marilyn Magill

Marilyn Magill, age 83, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away Monday, July 12, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, with Reverend Mark Harkness of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Marilyn’s name for the Mt. Carroll Band & Concert Fund. Online condolences and tributes may also be given to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.

Marilyn was born September 28, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Carl and Maretha (Schopp) Campen. She is a 1944 graduate of John Burroughs High School and a 1948 graduate of Washington University, both in St. Louis. While attending Washington University, Marilyn met her husband, T. Nelson Magill. They were married May 26, 1950 in St. Louis. Nelson worked as an instructor at Washington University, until being hired by Shimer College to head up the Theatre Department in 1966, when they moved their family to Mt. Carroll. By this time, Marilyn and Nelson had two boys, Frank,12, and Matt, 6.

Marilyn loved Mt. Carroll. In 1979, she was elected to the City Council. During those years she organized the Mt. Carroll Young Person’s Theatre Group. Nelson passed away in 1988. Marilyn then decided she wanted to devote her time to the City of Mt. Carroll and was elected Mayor in 1989, she would go on to serve three terms. During her tenure as Mayor, she was very proud of the city services and the work ethic of our city workers and the police department. Marilyn was known as a good listener and someone who made a difference in people’s lives. She offered a place above city hall for youth athletic teams to gather and socialize after home games called the “Fifth Quarter.” Marilyn was a member of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church.

Marilyn will be dearly missed by her two sons, Frank (Betty Ann) Magill of Richardson, Texas and Matt Magill of Mt. Carroll; three grandchildren, Shaun, Jennah and Madison; her sister, Marjorie Casterline of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews. Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Nelson, and a sister, Maretha Smith.

Allan C. Salier

Allan C. Salier, 84, of Lanark, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, July l6, 2010 in Silvis.

He was born June 14, l926 in Freeport, the son of George and Mary (Wingert) Salier. He married Virginia Miller on Saturday, Dec. 21, l946 at the First Brethren Church in Lanark. He and his wife farmed their entire lives in the Lanark and Shannon area.

He loved farming and working with livestock, especially working with horses in his younger years. He loved spending time with his grandsons and his great grandchildren.

Surviving are one son, Gary Salier of Shannon, two grandsons, Ron Salier of Geneseo, and Tim Salier of San Antonio, TX, three great grandchildren, Payton, Sienna, and Makenna, all of Geneseo, one sister-in-law, Dawne Salier of Arlington Heights, Il. and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Mildred Salier, his wife, Virginia on Dec. l8, l994, his brothers, Lynn and Ivan, and a sister, Elaine.

Funeral Services will be on Monday, July l9, 20l0 at ll:00 A.M. at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark with the Rev. Dan Rusmisel officiating. Burial will be in the Lanark Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Donald "Bub" Adolph

Donald "Bub" Adolph, age 90, formerly of Chadwick, died Monday July 19, 2010 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll.

Bub Adolph

Bub was born on December 7, 1919 in Fairhaven Township rural Chadwick the son of Charles and Flossie (Hiller) Adolph. He married Lois Groharing on August 15, 1942 in Mt. Carroll. She preceded him in death on December 14, 2005. Bub was a lifelong farmer in Fairhaven Township.

Survivors include one daughter, Becky (David) Oberbillig of Rock Falls; three sons, Kevin (DiAnn) Adolph of Chadwick, Michael (Nancy) Adolph of Savanna and Larry (Pam) Adolph of Mt. Carroll; three sisters, Phyllis VenHuizen of Morrison, Lois King and Florence Tripp both of Chadwick; 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Saturday July 24, 2010 at Fairhaven Cemetery, Chadwick with Reverend Robert Ziebarth of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Carroll officiating. There is no visitation. Following the graveside service the family invites everyone to a celebration of Bub's life at Uncle Hoser's in Chadwick. Arrangements were completed by the McDonald Funeral Home in Milledgeville.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.

Donald S. Wolfe, Jr.

Donald S. Wolfe, Jr., age 73, of Savanna, Illinois, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 24, 2010 at t he Savanna Township Cemetery, Savanna. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Heartland Pet Welfare, Inc.

Louis L. Decker

Louis L. Decker, age 84, of Sterling, Illinois, formerly of Rayburn Country, Texas, and Chadwick, Illinois, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the CGH Medical Center in Sterling. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick. Private family interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Lou’s name to the Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick.

Betty F. Flies

Betty F. Flies, age 88, of Fulton, Illinois, formerly of Thomson and Hanover, Illinois, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton, Iowa. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Hanover United Methodist Church, Hanover.
