Bernice E. Brown

Bernice Evelyn Brown, age 81, of Chadwick, Illinois passed away at home on August 21, 2010 surrounded by her family. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Chadwick Cemetery. Bernice was born on February 4, 1929, in Chadwick, the daughter of Julius and Hazel (Kahler) Eickert. Bernice married Edward Brown on September 28, 1951 in Augusta, Georgia. They enjoyed 36 loving years together and raised four sons. Bernice enjoyed her family, home, reading, and cooking.

Bernice will be dearly missed by four sons, David (Colleen) Brown of Frankfort, Illinois, Bill Brown of Independence, Missouri, Mike (Norma) Brown of Marion, Illinois and John (Ruth) Brown of Madison, Wisconsin; four sisters, Iva Atherton of Freeport, Illinois, Violet (Lloyd) Ferris of Lena, Illinois, Joyce Gay of Savanna, Illinois and Gloria Murphy of Grove Hill, Alabama; four brothers, Elmer Eickert of Milledgeville, Illinois, Lloyd (Diane) Eickert of Missoula, Montana, Lyle (Marie) Eickert of Eldorado Hills, California and Wayne (Susan) Eickert of Normandy Park, Washington; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, and her brother Kenneth Eickert.

Charles Carroll

Charles Carroll, 82 , of Lanark, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his two children in the early morning hours of Monday, August 30, 2010. His journey ended after a month’s stay @ UW Hospital in Madison, having been diagnosed with a rare and incurable form of lymphoma.

He was born in Chicago on September, 2, 1927, the youngest of seven children of Charles and Agnes (Walsh) Carroll.

Chuck graduated from Lanark High School in 1947. He would talk about playing football in Sheeps’ Stadium, but rarely mentioned being a basketball cheerleader.

He retired from DeKalb Feeds in Rock Falls in 1996 after 35 yrs. as a feed salesman. His years with Dekalb developed into long lasting friendships with both employees and customers.

Chuck married Jeannine Guentner on August 20, l949. They were together nearly 60 yrs. until her death on August 2, 2009. Their lives were filled with antiques, travels to Pennsylvania, and living in their dream home.

Chuck was a true Irishman, his wit and sense of humor were always a part of him. Between the endless hours tinkering “at the farm”, following his Packers, Cubs, and “fighting Irish”, he always kept busy and never looked for something to do.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen, and his son, Michael (Trish) all of Lanark.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jeannine, three brothers, Paul, John, & Jim, and three sisters, Marcella Mills, Marion Slamp, and Rosemary Richardson.

The funeral mass will be held at l0:30 A.M. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 at St. Wendelin _Catholic Church in Shannon. Officiating will be Father Michael * Bolger and Chuck’s cousin, Father Jerry Walsh.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wed. Sept. l, 2010 at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark and after l0:00 A.M. on thurs. at the church. The scripture service will be at 7:00 p.m. on wed. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Lanark Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his memory.

Carl E. Paisley

Carl E. Paisley, 75, of Hanover, Illinois, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at the Morrison Community Hospital, Morrison, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27, 2010, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Hanover. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Hanover. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Ray C. Green, age 51, of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Mercy Hospital North Campus, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 30, 2010, at Antl Hall at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna. Burial will follow in Savanna Township Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Delores Y. Prins

Delores Y. “Suzie” Prins, 76, of 2776 Scenic Bluff Road, Thomson, IL, died Monday, August 23, 2010 at her home. Visitation was Thursday, August 26 at the Fulton Chapel Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. The Funeral Service was August 27 with the Rev. Paul Fritz. Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.

T.Vincent Gaffey, age 96, of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A memorial fund has been established.
