Francis A. “Lonnie” Handel, Jr., 62, of Savanna, IL died Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, IL. Cremation rights have been accorded. Lonnie’s wishes were that there be no services. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Lonnie was born October 24, 1947 in Iowa City, IA to Francis A. Sr. and Jean (Johnson) Handel. He attended Savanna Grade School and graduated from Savanna High School in 1966. He also attended Harris County Community School in Houston, TX. He served in the United States Navy and was employed by and Shaner and Handel in Savanna and also General Electric in Houston, TX.

He married Katherina M. Close in Savanna on January 7, 1967.

Lonnie enjoyed model railroading and spending time with his granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; one son, Chris (Mandy) Handel of Sabula, IA; one granddaughter, Caliegh Jo Handel; and one sister, Peggy (Mason) Campbell of Roanoke, VA.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Heidi Jo Handel.

Huetta Ratliff

Huetta Ratliff , 86,of Chadwick, IL died, Friday, September 10, 2010 at Heritage Woods, Sterling.

Huetta was born May 1, 1924 in Paragold, Ark, the daughter of William P. and Mary E. (Green) Wood. She married James “Clovis” Ratliff of May 5, 1945 in Jonesboro, Ark. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2005. She was a member of Community Baptist Church, Milledgeville.

Survivors include one daughter, Beverly (Marion) Zemke of Milledgeville; two sons, Larry Ratliff of Huston, TX and Terry (Marcia) Ratliff of Sterling; one sister Bonnie (L.L.) Bennett of Jonesboro, Ark; two brothers, Wayne W. Wood of Jonesboro, Ark and R. H. “Hamp (Pat) Wood of Waldenburg, Ark four grandchildren, Jeri Zemke, Mike (Carrie) Zemke, Jason (Jennifer) Ratliff and Traci (Mark Shaw) Ratliff and two great grandchildren, Breck Kennedy and Solei Huetta Zemke.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers Gilmore, Willard and Leslie and four half-sisters, Ruth, Myrtle, Ethel and Tomazine.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Community Baptist Church, Milledgeville, with Pastor Kregg Farmer officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery, Milledgeville. Visitation will be held from 5-7PM Monday at the church.

A memorial has been established.

Joan M. Glasser-Barsema

Joan M. Glasser-Barsema, 72, of Thomson, formerly of Freeport, died Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at her home.

Born July 13, 1938 in Monroe, Wisconsin she was the daughter of Lowell and Marion (Campbell) Markwardt. She married Dale I. Glasser June 5, 1987 and he preceded her in death. She married Rich Barsema April 28, 2001.

Joan worked for the Newell Companies in Freeport.

Surviving are her husband, Rich of Thomson; her daughter, Hilary (Chad Riese) of Freeport; 2 step daughters, Rana (Steve Jones) Barsema of Morrison and Christine (Fred) Reedy of Fulton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband.

Funeral service will be Monday 11 a.m. at Walker Mortuary. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.

Visitation will be Sunday 12 noon to 2 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.

A memorial has been established in her name.

Delmar W. Kampen

Delmar W. Kampen, 83, of Baileyville, IL died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 while working on his farm.

He was born September 12, 1926 in Freeport, IL, the son of the late Alfred and Jenny (Bocker) Kampen. He married Rena Cox on August 5, 1945.

Delmar was a life long farmer and loved working on his farm and took great pride in his tractors and equipment that he operated. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to other farmers in the area. His memberships include Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon and the Forreston Lions Club. He enjoyed motorcycling, snowmobiling, golfing, bowling, collecting cars and toy tractors. He loved his grandchildren and family.

He is survived by his wife Rena, daughter Sandra (Richard) Mertz of Baileyville, 2 grandaughters Wendy (Troy) Derrer of Lanark and Michelle (Chad) Griffiths of Baileyville, 4 great grandchildren Garrett, Kate and Dalton Paul and Daniel Derrer, 3 step grandchildren mary Jo, Sydney and Quinn Griffiths and one brother Robert (Gladys) Kampen of Kansas City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 13 at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. Burial was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL. A memorial fund has been established.
