WCMS Starts Volleyball Season

The 2010 volleyball season is off and running as the 7th grade Thunder “Black” team played three matches last week. The “Black” team, consisting of Alex Coats, Bailey Durward, Cassie Johnson, Elle Jones, Kaylee Plattenberger, Shannon Sleeman and Allison Whitehead played their first match of the season against Riverdale on August 23rd. The team split in the two games they played, winning one and losing one.

“We had a few first game nerves,” said Coach Kari Baisden, “but they really showed great potential in both games. We have not had a lot of practice so I thought we did really well for the first time out.” The Black team was back in action on Tuesday, August 24 against Chadwick. Leading the Thunder in serving were Elle Jones, Kaylee Plattenberger, Alex Coats, Shannon Sleeman and Bailey Durward. The Thunder lost the match but did persevere to win one of the games.

“Chadwick showed much better serving than the previous night and we just weren’t quite where we needed to be on the floor. These are things we will continue to work on in practice,” said Baisden.

The final game of the week for the Thunder was Thursday, August 26 against Polo. The Black team was joined for this game by Gitselle Rodriguez. They lost the match in three games with scores of 26-24,21-25 and 19-25. Leading the team in serves were Elle Jones, Kaylee Plattenberger and Gitselle Rodriguez. Next on the schedule for the Black team is Chadwick. The games will be played in Chadwick on Thursday, September 9 at 4:00 p.m.
