West Carroll Middle Scholl Volleyball Finishes Season
The West Carroll Middle School volleyball season finished on a high note for the Green Team. The girls dominated in the final game at home against Galena. The teams played three games with West Carroll winning all three by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 15-10.
Prior to the Galena game, the 7th grade Green team defeated Sterling Gold at home and lost to a good River Ridge team. "This was a great end to a fun season," said Coach Kari Baisden. "The girls really improved during the season in their skills as well as playing as a team. Both 7th grade teams will develop more in 8th grade and they have a really good outlook for high school volleyball." The Green team ended their season with a winning record of 12-6 overall.

Morrison Takes Two From P'town
The Fillies took a Three Rivers conference win from Prophetstown on Tuesday night in Sterling, 25-17 and 25-12. Morrison (3-10) got five aces and four assists from Ashlyn Wieneke, Shelby McBride added nine assists and Chelsea King contributed six kills.
Lady Cougars Stop West Carroll
Eastland took two straight from the Lady Thunder on Tuesday in Savanna, 25-17 and 25-21. Eastland was led by Katelyn Hasken's eight kills. Becca Fritz led West Carroll with six kills while Chelsey Sipe added five kills.
Lady Cougars Defeat Le-Win

With both teams at 11-1 and a conference title on the line, both teams came out ready to play on Thursday night in Lanark. Eastland wanted it just a little bit more, as they defeated the Lady Panthers in three, 25-16, 20-25 and 25-18 to take the NUIC title with a record of 12-1, 28-2 overall. The loss drops Le-Win to 11-2, 24-6 overall. The Lady Cougars came out on fire in game one, taking the first five points and jumping out to a 12-4 early lead. Le-Win was able to make some adjustments and took a close game two. The third game was back and forth, with no team taking more than a couple of point lead before Eastland pulled away at the end to take game three. Courtney Blair and Megan Bunyer led a balanced Eastland attack with twelve kills each, while Kaitlyn Hasken chipped in with eleven. Hope Linker had thirty-four assists, 15 service points and six blocks.

IHSA Class 2A Regional Volleyball
The West Carroll Lady Thunder will be in the 2009 IHSA Class 2A Regional volleyball tournament on October 29th at Byron High School. The tournament will start at 5:30 with Byron (4) and Genoa-Kingston (5).
The Lady Thunder (3) will take on Stillman Valley (2) in Match 2 starting at 6:30. The 3rd Match will follow at 7:30 with Winnebago (1) against the winner of Match 1. The winners of Match 2 and Match 3 will play in the Championship game Saturday, October 31st at 7:00.
All tickets for the tournament will be $4.00 per person. The ticket gate will open at 4:30. Parking will be in the lots on the north side of the building.

EPC Defeats Pecatonica
On a rainy evening in Lanark, the EPC Wildcats took on the Pecatonica Indians for a possible home field playoff game. The game remained scoreless until quarter number four when EPC exploded for twenty two points to take the 22-7 win.
Wildcat Alex Maurer was the EPC workhorse, carrying the ball 37 times for 305 yards and two scores. EPC scored their final points on a 40 yard interception return by Jordan Blair.
The Wildcat's will have to go on the road, as they travel to Downs to take on Tri Valley in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Thunder Falls To Dakota
Despite the Thunder getting on the board to take an early 6-0 lead the Indians scored 20 straight points to take the 20-14 victory. Dakota fishes the season undefeated and will host Mooseheart in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs.
The Thunder finished their season with a record of 3-6, 3-4 conference. Ethan Baisden led West Carroll with 47 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown wile David Walter rushed for 29 yards on 13 carries and a score.
Marcos Shut Out The Missiles
After reaching the Class 1A semifinals a year ago, the Missiles finished their season with a shut out at the hands of the Polo Marcos 18-0. The loss left Milledgeville with a record of 2-7, 2-6 conference.
Polo got on the board with twelve first quarter points and six in the fourth. The Marcos first score came on a 47 yard run by Brandon Wiggins and was followed by a 62 yard pass from Drew Cheatham to Connor Lincoln to make the score 12-0 at the half. The Marcos final points came on a 15 yard pass from Cheatham to Scott Scholl.
Wiggins had 129 yards on 16 carries for Polo. Carrigan Hunter led the Missiles with 61 yards on 17 carries. The Marocs will travel to East Dubuque for the Class 1A playoffs.
Morrison Tales Big Rivers Crown
The Mustangs defense was again stellar, giving up only 40 total yards of offense to Fulton. Backs Kyle Janssen and Josh Vos had huge games to lead Morrison to the 41-0 victory over the Steamers.
Janssen accounted for three Morrison touchdowns while teammate Vos added one of his own as the Mustangs put up all 41 of their points in the first half. Vos led Morrison with 116 yards on 10 carries while Janssen added 79 yards on 7 carries.
The Mustangs host Deer Creek Mackinaw in Class 2A first round playoff action.
For various reasons, the Joe Finn Memorial Checkered Flag Shootout has been postponed. Look in future editions of the Prairie Advocate for a rescheduling date.
Northwestern IL Sports Hall of Fame Meeting
The Northwestern Illinois Sports Hall of Fame committee will meet on Wednesday, November 4th at Manny's Pizza in Savanna. An "Attitude Adjustment" will be held at 6 p.m. and the meeting will follow.

EPC 7th Grade Football Finishes Excellent Season

The EPC 7th Grade football team with head coach Scott Heeren and Assistant Coach Jason Demichele. They finished the 2009 season with a 6-1 record.
The EPC 7th grade football team, coached by head coach Scott Heeren and assistant coach Jason Demichele, concluded an exceptional season, finishing the year with a 6-1 record. They began the season with a 40-0 win over Le-Win. In the second game, they squeaked by Forreston 6-0.
Their only loss came in week three, with a hard fought 8-2 loss to Sterling Newman. Newman's score came on a 63 yard TD run which was the only touchdown they gave up in twenty-eight quarters of play. Week four saw them post their biggest margin of victory, a 52-0 blowout win against West Carroll. Week five was a 14-0 win over Polo and the following week they posted an identical 14-0 win over Durand. The last game of the year was a 30-0 victory over Milledgeville.
They outscored their opponents 158-8 in the six game season. They averaged 267 yards per game, scoring 23 per game. Their base defense included a rotation of eighteen players. Their defense accounted for six touchdowns, four on interception returns and two fumble returns. The future looks bright for the EPC football program and we wish to congratulate the coaches and players on a fine season.
