The Missiles took a thirteen to five first quarter lead and held off the Polo Marcos in the opening game of the Class 1A Eastland Regional by twelve points. Neither team could find the basket in the second period as the only scoring in the quarter came in a Michael Geary bucket and Milledgeville led thirteen to seven at the intermission. The shooting touches came back to life for both squads in the second half as the Marcos outscored Milledgeville seventeen to sixteen in the quarter to give the Missiles a twenty nine to twenty four lead going into the final quarter. An eighteen to fifteen Milledgeville scoring advantage made the final margin of the win. The Missiles were led by Jordan Harris who scored sixteen points with teammate Mitchel Rahn adding thirteen points. Three players led Polo in scoring with Michael gear, Dylan Schoon and AJ Dollmeyer scoring seven points each.
Pearl City 59 Kirkland-Hiawatha 39
The Wolves jumped out to an eighteen to eight first quarter lead and cruised to the easy twenty point victory. Their lead grew to twenty three points (38-15) at the intermission. Pearl City again increased their led in the third quarter taking a fifteen to ten advantage to make it fifty three to twenty five going into the fourth quarter. The Hawks outscored Pearl City fourteen to six in the final period but it wasn’t nearly enough to get them back in the contest. Jason Kurth led Pearl City with seventeen points and teammate Zach Moyer added sixteen. The Hawks were led by Marek Mlodzianowski who scored nine points.

Eastland 64 Milledgeville 26
The Cougars limited Milledgeville to single digit scoring in all four quarters as they rolled to the thirty eight point victory and advanced themselves to Friday night’s regional championship game against the Forreston Cardinals. Eastland took a fifteen to six first quarter lead and led twenty eight to twelve at the half. Their lead grew to twenty eight points (48-20) at the end of quarter number three and a sixteen to six fourth quarter made the final score. Ten different players put points on the board for the Cougars, led by Ty Hartman’s twenty one points. Teammate Dalton Shaner added thirteen points. Milledgeville was led in scoring by Jordan Harris and Kaleb Ebersole who both scored seven points.
Forreston 55 Pearl City 43
The Cardinals jumped out to an eighteen to thirteen first quarter lead and held off the Wolves to take the twelve point victory to propel them into Friday evenings championship game against Eastland. Forreston led twenty eight to twenty at the intermission. A fourteen to four third quarter scoring advantage put the Cardinals in control and they mad enough free throws down the stretch to hold off the Wolves for the win. Tanner Bronkema’s nineteen points led Forreston with Cody Whitehead adding eleven. Pearl City’s Jason Kurth led the Wolves with nineteen points and Boden Brandt added a dozen.

Before a full house at the new EHS gym, the Forreston Cardinals and Eastland Cougars battled it out for the regional championship. When the smoke cleared, the Cardinals had pulled out the 46-43 overtime win to advance them to Tuesday evening’s River Ridge sectional where they meet the Sterling Newman Comets.
The game started out close and remained that way throughout, with the Cougars holding a slim eleven to ten first quarter lead. A ten to five second quarter grew the Cougar lead to twenty one to fifteen at the half. Both teams tallied fourteen points in the third quarter and the Cardinals still trailed by six points (35-29) going into the final period.
The fourth quarter saw Eastland convert on just two field goals, one by Tyler Giedd and the other by Ty Hartman while Forreston scored on a pair of buckets by middle man Tanner Bronkema a field goal from Chris Sander and three free throws to knot the game at thirty nine at the end of regulation. A fifteen foot jumper by the Cougars Dalton Shaner rattled around and out as time expired and sent the game to an extra period.
Fouls became the issue as Eastland was forced to foul and the Cardinals were able to convert on seven of twelve charity tosses to seal the win. Another three point attempt by Shaner as time expired in the extra period missed it’s mark and the Cardinals had the win.
Tanner Bronkema led the Cardinals in scoring with fifteen points. The Cougars were led by Dalton Shaner’s twelve points with teammate Ty Hartman adding eleven points and twelve rebounds. Forreston extends their season as they run their record to sixteen wins against thirteen losses while Eastland’s season end with a record of twenty five wins and just four losses.

River Ridge led twenty six to twenty at the intermission and outscored the Pirates eighteen to eight in the third quarter to lead forty four to twenty eight. Both teams scored nineteen points in the final quarter. Ryan Merkle led the Wildcats with eighteen points and Tony Hernandez deed sixteen points. Galena’s Dalton Montgomery led all scorers in the game with twenty four points.

River Ridge used scoring advantages in the second and third quarters to build a lead over the Blackhawks and were able to fend off Stockton to take the eight point win. Both teams put fourteen points on the board in the first quarter. The Wildcats outscored Stockton eighteen to eleven in the second to open up a thirty two to twenty five halftime lead. A thirteen to ten third quarter put River Ridge up by ten points (45-35) going into quarter number four. Stockton cut two points off that lead by taking the fourth quarter twenty three to twenty one. Tony Hernandez led the Wildcats with nineteen points and Ryan Merkle added sixteen points. Jared Hess led Stockton with twenty points and teammate Cole Schamberger added thirteen points.

The Hornets took a thirteen to six first quarter lead and rolled to the twenty four point win to end the Wildcats season. Scales Mound put up fourteen second quarter points and held River Ridge to just a pair of points to take the twenty seven to eight half time lead. The lead grew to twenty two points (41-19) going into the final quarter and the Hornets outscored River Ridge ten to eight to make the final margin of victory. Greg Cox and T.J. Staver paced Scales Mound with both scoring thirteen points while Alex Ertmer and Ryan Merkle led River Ridge with each player scoring eight points. The win advances Scales Mound to the River Ridge sectional where they face the Freeport Aquin Bulldogs on Wednesday night.

Kewanee was outscored sixteen to twelve in the final period as the Mustangs avenged their ten point loss to Kewanee just three days before. Matt Wilkens led the Mustangs with sixteen points and teammate Bill Bos added fifteen points. Dayton Ince led Kewanee with eleven points.

A sixteen to fourteen Morrison fourth quarter made the final margin of the win for the Rams. Eleven players put up points for Port Byron/Riverdale led by Jared Richmond’s seventeen with teammate Wes DeClerq adding sixteen points. Morrison was led in scoring by Bill Bos’ nine points with Alex Weeks adding eight.

The Cardinals jumped out to a fifteen to nine first quarter lead and used a big third quarter scoring surge to put away the Panthers. Stillman Valley led by just two points (25-23) at the half. An eighteen to five third quarter proved to be Le-Win’s undoing and the Cardinals outscored the Panthers sixteen to fifteen in the final period. Stillman Valley (11-12) was led in scoring by senior Kyle Lawson who poured in twenty two points and set a new school record for three pointers in the contest. The Panthers were topped on the scoreboard by Tevin Sellers who scored sixteen points. Teammate Hank Holm added elen points for Le-Win (13-14).

In a tight back and forth game, the Winnebago Indians’ were able to capitalize on a Thunder turnover and turn it into the game winning basket with seconds on the clock to claim the narrow two point victory.
West Carroll took a two point (10-8) lead into the second quarter and Winnebago came back to outscore the Thunder fourteen to ten and held a two point lead (22-20) at the half. West Carroll outscored the Indians eleven to nine in quarter number three to knot the score at thirty one points apiece going into the final period.
The final quarter was back and forth with neither team able to build a lead. Winnebago led by a single point at thirty nine to thirty eight with two minutes to play and the Thunder held a one point lead at forty to thirty nine with a minute left. An Indian free throw knotted the score at forty apiece with thirty seconds to play and West Carroll chose to hold for a final shot. A Thunder turnover (traveling) with just under ten seconds left gave the ball back to Winnebago. After a timeout, the Indians Matt Reinke made a beautiful lob pass to Mike Jack for the game winning bucket.
Winnebago (17-11) moves on to play the top seeded Byron Tigers in the championship game. West Carroll ends their season at twenty four and four. Reinke topped the Indians in scoring, dropping in fourteen points with teammate Jacoby Posley adding ten. West Carroll’s Eric Naples led all scorers in the contest with eighteen points and Brady Edwards added thirteen points.
